You're the Bee's Knees

Here’s my card for this week’s Waltzingmouse sketch challenge. I went for a fun, whimsical design using one of the sentiments from the Compact Sentiments-Part Two set.

I stamped the set’s “you’re the bee’s knees” sentiment along the bottom of an aqua panel in a darker blue ink, then built a simple scene around it, playing off of the bee theme. I die cut a layered flower from felt and added a button center, dressed up with a little baker’s twine. I used my sewing machine to stitch a somewhat straight line to serve as a stem, then adhered the flower at the top of the line of stitches. I stamped a pair of bees from the Lil’ Buddies set on a scrap of white cardstock and colored them with Copic markers. After cutting them out and coating their wings with a little glitter, I used foam tape to attach them to the panel so they are hovering around the flower.

To go with the bee theme, I found some hexagon patterned paper to cover most of the cardfront. Its honeycomb-like pattern was a perfect match for my design.

Materials Used:
Compact Sentiments-Part Two and Lil’ Buddies stamp sets (Waltzingmouse Stamps); Marshmallow cardstock (Bazzill); Memento Tuxedo Black ink (Tsukineko); markers (Copic); Hawaiian Shores ink, Aqua Mist and Harvest Gold cardstock, Harvest Gold felt, Orange Zest button (Papertrey Ink); Fine and Dandy-True Blue 6x6 paper pad (My Mind’s Eye); CutUps Button Flowers die (The Cat’s Pajamas); yellow baker’s twine (The Twinery); sewing machine; corner rounder; foam tape
