Summer Time Is the Best Time

I was so excited to find my new sets from Waltzingmouse Stamps in my mailbox late last week! I made sure to ink up one of the new sets for my card for this week’s Waltzingmouse sketch challenge.

I used a bunch of the images from the new My Island set to create my focal image panel. It took a little bit of playing around on scrap paper before deciding on the color combination for my little scene. I went with warm yellows, oranges, and browns stamped on a white panel—it doesn’t look white around the edges because I rubbed a little distress ink on them once I was done stamping. I machine stitched the stamped panel to a kraft mat and set it aside to put together the rest of the card.

Originally, I’d thought I’d use one of the set’s sentiments in the bottom right corner of the card, but once I found this fun text printed paper in a Jillibean Soup paper pad, I knew it would work perfectly without a stamped sentiment. I purposely cut the paper so that the “summer time is the best time” text would be in that lower right hand corner, just where I wanted it. I cut a strip of golden yellow dotted paper for the diagonal strip that runs across the card, edging it with some kraft paper and machine stitching it to tie it in with the image panel. After wrapping some orange twill and natural twine around the panel, I attached the stamped image panel on top. The piece is set on a kraft base to finish off the natural color scheme.

Materials Used:
My Island stamp set (Waltzingmouse Stamps); Memento Cantaloupe, Tangelo, Morocco, and Rich Cocoa inks (Tsukineko); Antique Linen distress ink (Ranger); Crumb Cake and Whisper White cardstock (Stampin’ Up!); Watermelon Gazpacho 6x6 paper pad (Jillibean Soup); Hip Hooray “Boy”-Charming designer paper (My Mind’s Eye); natural twine (Hemptique); orange twill (Michaels); sewing machine
