Classic Happy Holidays

Here’s my card for this week’s Waltzingmouse sketch challenge. I created a classic looking holiday card based on the sketch.

Instead of using an oval shape for the focal panel, I used the star from the Seasons of Love Tags set. It’s stamped in red ink on cream cardstock, then inked with distress inks for a softer look. To add more interest and some dimension, instead of stamping the “happy holidays” sentiment from the Say It Loud Winter Holidays set directly on the center of the star panel, I stamped it on a cream circle with distress inked edges, then set the panel on foam tape on top of a kraft circle adhered to the center of the star. Since the star image has a hole on one point (so it can be easily used as a tag), I added a piece of creamy satin ribbon, tied in a double looped bow to hide the hole and give the star a finished look.

The rest of the card uses a pretty traditional Christmas color scheme. I set the star on an olive green panel, edged with strips of striped patterned paper. A cream eyelet border separates the solid strip from the patterned sections and gives the design an elegant detail, too.

Materials Used:
Seasons of Love Tags and Say It Loud Winter Holidays stamp sets (Waltzingmouse Stamps); Memento Lady Bug ink (Tsukineko); Antique Linen distress ink (Ranger); Old Olive and Very Vanilla cardstock, Eyelet Lace border punch (Stampin’ Up!); Kraft cardstock (Papertrey Ink); Season's Greetings 6x6 paper pad (Echo Park); circle punches (EK Success); satin ribbon (Michaels); Bow Easy; foam tape
