Is Age Just a Number?

Here's my card for this week's sketch from The Paper Players, just under the wire.  I used Avery Elle's Good Fortune stamp set to make a funny masculine birthday card.

This set is full of great images for masculine birthday cards!  For this one, I used the set's Magic 8 ball as the focal image.  I had one of these when I was growing up.  Now, I have a virtual one in an app on my phone.  How times have changed . . .

I paired the bold, black image with a fun multicolored chevron patterned panel.  The colorful, busy pattern is a nice contrast to the solid image.  The pieces are adhered to a red panel embossed with a dotted pattern.

The red's broken up with a solid gray strip along the right side of the card.  I'd originally planned to use some of this gray patterned washi tape for this piece, but the solid cardstock looked better alongside the chevron pattern.  Instead of adding a decorative border strip, I used my sewing machine to zig zag stitch along the right edge of the gray strip.  For some reason, I have such a hard time with the zig zag stitch on my machine!  Every time I try to use it, I end up with a mess of crooked, uneven stitches. Fortunately, I was able to hide most of my mistakes on this card.  The "is age just a number?" sentiment is stamped on a yellow strip to match the card base and set near the bottom of the card.

If you're planning on doing some shopping over the weekend, don't forget to stop by i {heart} papers.  Kate's having a big spring cleaning sale with lots of items marked down--including the patterned paper pad I used on this card!
