Happy Bird-day

This week’s Paper Smooches SPARKS challenge is an anything goes challenge. I used the Birthday Buddies set to make this sweet card, incorporating a few of the SCS Dare to Get Dirty challenges along the way.

Instead of coloring the birdie with alcohol ink markers, I stamped it on watercolor paper and used distress markers and a waterbrush to color the image. I’m far from an expert watercolorer, but on images like this one, I don’t think that really matters—LOL! I added a tiny blue crystal to the hat for a touch of sparkle.

The image is placed on a yellow card base that I covered with a mix of a blue dotted and a yellow chevron print. The curved edge of the chevron patterned paper panel gives the card a little unexpected detail. A little bit of light blue faux suede ribbon across the card, underneath the image panel, breaks up the patterns a little bit. I stamped the set’s “happy bird-day” sentiment in black ink directly on the chevron patterned paper to finish the card.

Materials Used:
from i {heart} papers: Paper Smooches Birthday Buddies stamp set, Tsukineko Memento Tuxedo Black ink, Ranger Distress Markers, Echo Park Bundle of Joy-Boy 6x6 paper pad, Lily Bee Design Sweet Shoppe 6x6 paper pad, May Arts light blue faux suede ribbon, KaiserCraft light blue gem

other: Daffodil Delight cardstock (Stampin’ Up!); Versafine Onyx Black ink (Tsukineko); watercolor paper
