Learn to Count

We’re kicking off Release in Review week at Clear and Simple Stamps with a look at the sets in the School Days Series. I made a set of flashcards using the Flashcards and Flashcards Fillers sets from the series.

The flashcards are made with the outline image from the Flashcards Fillers set. It’s stamped in red on a white panel. I filled in the top with stamped buttons (found in the Baby Sentiments set) and the bottom with the corresponding numeral from the Alpha Modern set. After trimming each card, I backed them with red panels stamped with the grid patterned image from the Flashcard Fillers set. The extra layer reinforces the cards a bit and makes them sturdier.

To store the cards, I made a matching box using the Party Favor 7 die. The crayon box shaped box is the perfect size for the flashcards. I cut the box from red cardstock and decorated it with a half circle stamped with the same grid image as I used on the back of the cards and the “learn to count” sentiment from the Flashcards set. A strip of number patterned washi tape helps secure the panel to the box.

And, as any good early childhood teacher knows, young children learn best when they have actual objects to use. So, I made a box using the Party Favor 14 die and filled it with red buttons so that the real buttons can be matched to the stamped buttons to practice counting and one to one correspondence. The box is held closed with some baker’s twine, and—of course—a button!
