Hello Friend

Here’s my card for this week’s Muse challenge. I was inspired by the bold black text against the colorful backdrop in Cornelia's card.

Hello Friend card-designed by Lori Tecler/Inking Aloud-stamps and dies from My Favorite ThingsAfter a few failed attempts to replicate the blended colors in the original card using watercolors and ink pads, I moved on to something less messy—colorblocking! I adhered three strips of cardstock—one yellow, one green, and one pink—to a white panel, then die cut the word “hello” from the cardstock, making sure to angle the die so that pieces were cut from all three colors. I die cut the word again, this time from black cardstock, and used it to fill in the open space in the striped panel.

The word “friend” from the My Favorite Things You’re Super stamp set was stamped beneath the die cut in black pigment ink. Since the lack of control over ink splatters kind of freaks me out, I opted to add a few black enamel dots as accents instead, keeping my design clean and simple with lots of white space.

Materials Used:
You’re Super stamp set, Die-namics Happy Hellos dies (My Favorite Things); Memento Luxe Tuxedo Black ink (Tsukineko); Pixie Pink and Yoyo Yellow cardstock (Stampin’ Up!); New Leaf cardstock (Papertrey Ink); enamel dots (Michaels)
