Lovebug

Here's my card for the current sketch at Freshly Made Sketches.  It's been around for a while, but I just love the Giddy Bugs set from Paper Smooches.  The set's bee made a fun focal image on this card.

Lovebug card-designed by Lori Tecler/Inking Aloud-stamps from Paper Smooches
I stamped the bee image, then colored it with Copic markers.  The wings were coated with a Spectrum Noir sparkle pen for a subtle shimmer--so pretty IRL!  I carefully cut out the image (I really should buy the matching dies . . .) and used foam tape to adhere it to a pale blue cardstock panel.  The panel was placed over a yellow dotted patterned paper panel, offset just a bit.  I adhered the panels to a crisp white cardstock panel, then added a long yellow fishtail flag strip to the left side of the panels.

To ground the bee image, I used a border punch and green cardstock to cut a strip of grass.  The set's "lovebug" sentiment was stamped on the strip.  I probably should have stamped it just a bit more to the right . . .  A contrasting red heart was adhered to the spot where the grass and yellow fishtail flag meet.  I layered the finished panel on to a coordinating yellow card base.

Materials Used:
Giddy Bugs stamp set (Paper Smooches); Memento Tuxedo Black ink (Tsukineko/IMAGINE Crafts); markers (Copic); clear Sparkle Glitter Brush (Spectrum Noir); Spring Rain, Simply Chartreuse, and Lemon Tart cardstock, Lemon Tart patterned paper (Papertrey Ink); Real Red cardstock (Stampin' Up!); Grass border punch (Fiskars); Of the Heart dies (Lil' Inker Designs); foam tape

  1. What a cute little guy!! Love your grass border with the sentiment - the yellow polka dots - and the pop of red! Thank you for playing along with us at Freshly Made Sketches.
