Stenciled Sympathy

This week’s blogger challenge theme is stencils. I don’t have many stencils in my collection and I’m not particularly expert at using them. But, I needed a sympathy card for a longtime friend and I thought I’d give stenciling a try on the card I made for her.

Stenciled Sympathy-designed by Lori Tecler/Inking Aloud-stamps from Papertrey Ink
Instead of using a commercially made stencil, I used a piece of drywall tape as a stencil. I used several shades of green ink and an ink blending tool to create a gradient along one side of the cardfront. The tape is low-tack, so it stayed in place while I inked it and was easy to remove when I was done.

After removing the tape, I stamped one of the silhouette floral images from the Papertrey Ink Life set over the stenciled section in green pigment ink. The "with deepest sympathy" sentiment from the Words of Comfort set is stamped next to the image, overlapping onto the stenciled section just a bit. I matted the panel on green cardstock, then adhered it to a cream card base.

Materials Used:
Life and Words of Comfort stamp sets, Ripe Avocado cardstock (Papertrey Ink); Shabby Shutters, Crushed Olive, and Peeled Paint distress inks (Ranger); Memento Luxe Pistachio ink (Tsukineko); cream cardstock (Michaels); drywall tape
