I’m not much of a scrapbooker,
so I’ll share a celebratory card for the occasion instead.
Here’s my card for this week’s Retro Sketches challenge. It’s kind of a
loose interpretation of the sketch, but I think it still works!
I used the sketch to make a fun
scene featuring one of the smaller owls from the Paper Smooches Hooties stampset. The tree trunk at the right side of
the panel was made by die cutting a kraft panel with one of the Paper Smooches
Trees 1 dies. When I ran the die through
my machine, I was careful to not fully cut the branch, leaving the straight end
still attached to the rest of the kraft panel.
I used my paper cutter to cut above and below the branch, leaving the
tree trunk shape you see here. To add a little
interest to the panel I used a mini ink blender tool to rub some
brown distress inks on the cardstock.
These little ink applicators have been flying off the shelves, so get them while
you can!
I adhered the cardstock to a
cardfront covered with a piece of blue dotted patterned paper. To ground the scene, I used a grass border
punch along the top of a strip of green paper from the same paper collection
and added that at the bottom of the panel.
Once the background was in place, I added the owl to the tree using a
dimensional dot. The “whoot” sentiment
was stamped in black ink inside a speech bubble from the He Said She Said stamp
set.
