An Apple for Teacher
Here’s my card for this month’s My Favorite Things guest designer challenge. I used the sketch to make a sweet back to school card featuring one of the a la mode sets, An Apple for Teacher.
I colored the a la mode girlie and her apple with Copic markers in warm tones, then added a little shading beneath her to ground the image. I chose the colors to match the pencil patterned paper I used behind the image—yes, they are pencils, even though they’re pretty much hidden by the image. The colored image is attached to the panel on an angle along with a strip of red grosgrain ribbon. I stamped the set’s “first day of school” sentiment on a strip of white cardstock, then used a ticket corner punch on the top edges to create a file folder-like tabbed look before adding it to the card.
The layered panel is attached to a yellow striped panel with a dark brown cardstock strip across it to break it up a bit. I machine stitched around the edges of both patterned paper panels for a nice, finished look. The panels are set on a kraft card base. Something about kraft says “school” to me—maybe it’s the memory of my brown paper bag covered text books . . .
Materials Used:
a la mode An Apple for Teacher stamp set (My Favorite Things); Marshmallow cardstock (Bazzill); Memento Tuxedo Black ink (Tsukineko); markers (Copic); Chocolate Chip and Crumb Cake cardstock, ticket corner punch (Stampin’ Up!); Homemade 6 Bean Soup-Red Beans designer paper (Jillibean Soup); Off to School 6x6 paper pad (Fancy Pants); red grosgrain ribbon (Michaels); sewing machine
