Color Throwdown 816-For Bar

It's time for another Color Throwdown! Today's challenge is a special one in honor of Barbara Anders, one of our challenge team founders, who recently passed away after a battle with cancer. Bar was an amazing lady--not just a talented stamper, but a fabulous friend. We hope you'll join us this week in celebrating our friend.

Here's my design. I used an emboss resist technique, stamping some silhouette florals and embossing them in cream, then layering on a mix of orange and brown distress oxides. After cutting the panel apart and matting each piece on cream cardstock, I arranged them on a kraft card base. The "with sympathy" sentiment was die cut from both cream and kraft cardstock. I layered the pieces, offsetting them slightly for a shadowed look, before adhering them to the cardfront.

Color Throwdown 802-Whale Hello

It's time for another Color Throwdown! Kelly is our hostess this week with a beachy feeling mix of colors--coral, grey, and blue.

Inspired by the marine theme in the inspiration photo, I paired the challenge colors with some pretty glittery paper and a whale stamp set. My whale is from Avery Elle's Whale Hello stamp set. The image was colored with gray Copic markers, then cut out with the matching die. I used foam tape to position the image at the top of some pretty patterned paper with glittery swirls on it. The swirls reminded me of waves, so the paper seemed link a good match for the image. After edging the bottom of the patterned panel in contrasting coral cardstock, I placed the panel on a blue card base that's just a bit darker than the blue in the challenge colors, but is pretty close to a blue in the inspiration photo. I combined sentiments from Avery Elle's Whale Hello and Cupcakes stamp sets to stamp "whale hello" on the coral strip that I added to the patterned paper panel to finish the design.

Color Throwdown 790-Thank You for All You Do

It's time for another Color Throwdown! Wanda is our hostess this week with a fantastic color combination--yellow, green, and aqua.

Today is Administrative Professionals Day, so I used the colors to make cards for the two amazing ladies who keep our school's front office running smoothly. The layout for my design is based on the current challenge from CAS Colours and Sketches. I used a mug and saucer die to cut a trio of mugs and saucers for each card. For interest, I mixed and matched the colors and adhered the pieces to the white card base with foam tape. I angled the mugs a bit to get at the idea that the job requires a lot of balancing skills! I combined sentiments from a pair of Avery Elle stamp sets--Many Thanks and Sentimental--to get my message of appreciating across. The text was stamped in aqua ink to match the mug in the middle. A clear crystal flourish of "steam" extending from the top of the stack of mugs completed the design.

Color Throwdown 754-With Sympathy

 
It's time for another Color Throwdown! Amy Rohl is our hostess this week with an earthy color palette--kraft, white, and green.

I paired the colors with the current sketch from Sunday Stamps for a clean and simple sympathy card design. I stamped two different size leaf images from Avery Elle's Petals & Stems stamp set on a kraft panel in green pigment ink, positioning them randomly for interest. The green looks a little darker than I'd hoped it would on the kraft, but I think it's close enough for the challenge! After filling the panel with stamped images, I matted it on green cardstock and placed it on a kraft card base. AE's "with sympathy" die was cut from white cardstock and layered on to the stamped panel to finish the card.

Color Throwdown 640-Sending Hugs Your Way

It's time for another Color Throwdown! Wanda is our hostess with a floral inspired color combination-- pink, coral, and green.

I paired the colors with the current Mojo Monday sketch and stamps and dies from Avery Elle. I built my card on a pink card base topped with a green panel. The top of the green panel was covered with panel of green patterned paper cut on an angle. I added a wide strip of pink cardstock matching the card base over the two green pieces, then positioned a shiny narrow strip of gold foil cardstock on the left side of the pink paper. My focal panel shows off a sentiment from the Simply Said Hugs stamps and dies. I die cut the "hugs" from coral and pink cardstock. The pink detailed text was layered on top of the wider coral background. It's hard to see in the photo, but I cut the word "hugs" several times and stacked the diecuts for dimension. The "sending" and "your way" sentiments were stamped in gold pigment ink above and below the die cut word and heat embossed in gold to complete the design.

Hogs & Kisses

Here's my card for the current challenge at CAS Colours and Sketches.  I used the layout for a punny love themed design featuring stamps from Avery Elle.

I colored up the pig image from the Hogs and Kisses stamp set with Copic markers, then used the matching die to cut out the colored image.  The set's "hogs & kisses" sentiment was stamped on the heart in the pig's hands in black ink.  To go with the image, I found a strip of XOXO patterned paper.  After edging the strip with contrasting red cardstock, I adhered it across the bottom of a very pale pink cardfront.  The image was added on top using foam tape for dimension.  I arranged a trio of red enamel hearts around the image as a fun accent.

I Whale Always Love You

Here's my card for the current Paper Craft Crew challenge. I used the layout for a punny love themed design featuring Avery Elle's Whale Hello stamp set.

I stamped the set's whale image and colored it with Copic markers, then used the matching die to cut out the colored image.  The image was adhered to a sky/water background panel in two shades of blue using foam tape for dimension.  I matted the panel with contrasting red cardstock before adhering it to a light blue cardstock panel stenciled with a dotted pattern.  For the sentiment, I used two different sized circle punches to create a wave-like edge on a strip of blue cardstock matching the water section of the background panel.  The set's "I whale always love you" sentiment was stamped on the strip in black ink. After edging it with a narrow strip of red cardstock to match the mat beneath the image panel, I used foam tape to adhere the sentiment to the panel. The finished panel was adhered to a blue card base that matches the sentiment strip.

Wishing You Peace This Holiday Season

Here's my card for the current challenge at Global Design Project.  I used the layout and theme as inspiration, but mixed up the color scheme and used fewer elements on my version of the design.

I used a pair of stitched circle dies and gold foil cardstock to create the round element for my layout. The shiny round piece was adhered to a pale gray cardstock panel over a strip of red, green, and gray plaid patterned paper.  I accented the piece with a small white dove from Avery Elle's Sending Peace stamp set that I stamped on shimmery white cardstock and cut out by hand.  For the sentiment, I die cut the word "peace" from green cardstock using AE's Snowflakes die set and placed the word over the gold circle.  The "sending you" and "this holiday season" phrases from the Sending Peace set were stamped in black ink on narrow green cardstock strips and placed above and below the die cut word.  For contrast, I accented the text with a trio of red sequins.  The finished panel was adhered to the center of a green card base matching the sentiment pieces, leaving a green border around either side of the gray panel.

Keeping Christmas-September 2020

It's time for the September Keeping Christmas blog hop! Kelly Lunceford started this many months ago and eventually the former team of "The Challenge" designers came to be a part of it.  We share holiday cards and projects with you on the 25th of each month to show you different ideas, techniques or projects to help you get a jump start on your holiday cards and tags for the coming year.  All of the designers have projects to share with you today. You'll find a list of the participating designers at the bottom of my post so you can stop by and admire their creativity while collecting some ideas for your holiday card creating. 

Here's my creation for this month's hop.  The layout was inspired by the current sketch at Try Stampin' on Tuesday.  I found some pretty patterned paper with large scale snowflakes in my scrap pile and thought it would make a pretty background for a large sentiment panel. My sentiment is from Avery Elle's Sending Peace stamp set.  I stamped the text in silver ink on a red cardstock panel before heat embossing it in silver for an extra pop.  The panel was matted on black cardstock before I adhered it to the patterned paper panel over narrow strips of black and silver cardstock. I used foam tape for dimension and so I could tuck the ends of the clear crystal flourishes I used as accents underneath the raised panel. The finished panel was adhered to a red card base matching the sentiment panel.

Hats Off

Here's my card for the current challenge at Freshly Made Sketches.  I used an image from Avery Elle's Hats Off stamp set that I colored earlier in the week for the current Daily Marker 30 Day Coloring Challenge to create a graduation themed design.

I colored a multicultural array of hands using Copic markers, then added color to the clothes using a red, blue, and gray color scheme.  I stamped a trio of mortarboards on a separate piece of cardstock and colored them, then cut them out by hand before using foam tape to adhere them above the outstretched arms.  The image panel was matted on red cardstock, then adhered to a navy blue card base.  For the sentiment I stamped the word "congratulations" from AE's Oh Happy Day stamp set on a strip of red cardstock and adhered it beneath the line of images to complete the card.

Color Throwdown 589-Love Ewe

It's time for another Color Throwdown!  Vickie is our hostess this week with a classic color combination--red, black, gray and white.

I paired the colors with the current sketch at Sunday Stamps and a sweet image from Avery Elle.  The heart-holding lamb from the Hogs and Kisses stamp set was colored with Copic markers, then cut out with the matching die.  I stamped the set's "love ewe" sentiment directly on the heart in black ink.  For the background, I cut a panel of gray and white plaid paper on an angle, forming two blocks.  The blocks were adhered to a red mat, then placed on a black card base. The image was adhered on top at the right side of the panel overlapping the two angled pieces using foam tape for dimension.

Wheelie Great

Here's my card for the current challenge at The Paper Players.  I inked up a new Avery Elle stamp set, Wheelie Great, for my card.  Anyone who's visited Inking Aloud a lot knows that I can't resist a cute bunny image!

I colored up the bike riding bunny with Copic markers, then used my Scan 'n Cut machine to cut out the colored image.  The machine did a great job cutting around all of the image's curves and edges!  It's hard to see in the photo, but I added a bit of white flock to the bunny's tail for some texture.  The image was adhered to a light blue circle with a green section on the bottom using foam tape for dimension.  I curved the set's "have a wheelie great birthday" sentiment on a clear block to match the curve of the circle and stamped it at the bottom of the green section in black ink. I adhered the finished image panel on to a patterned paper panel with a pair of pale green cardstock strips on the left side, each edged with a narrow pale pink strip.  The floral panel was matted on a pale pink cardstock panel, then adhered to a green card base matching the strips at the left side of the card.

So Thankful for You

Here's my card for the current Global Design Project challenge.  I incorporated several elements from the inspiration card, including the layout and floral theme, into my design.

The detailed, dimensional floral strip along the left side of the inspiration card was so eye-catching, but I knew I didn't have the patience to recreate it, so I substituted a pretty strip of floral patterned paper.  My color scheme is more muted, but still incorporated a cheery shade of yellow.  I matted the patterned paper panel using foam tape for dimension, then adhered it to the left side of a pale gray card base.  For the sentiment, I stamped a large thank you sentiment from Avery Elle's Many Thanks set in teal ink on a pierced circle die cut.  I matted the sentiment on teal cardstock, then added it to the cardfront.  Similar to the inspiration piece, I added a floral cluster to the sentiment panel.  Mine is only on the lower right side of the circle, but I think it's enough.  I dotted the centers of the two flowers with self-adhesive pearls to finish the design.

Color Throwdown 585-Floral Thank You

It's time for another Color Throwdown! Jodi is our hostess with a bold mix of colors--teal, coral, cream, and green. I paired the colors with the current challenge at Sunday Stamps and some floral stamps from Avery Elle.

After die cutting a bunch of pieces from white cardstock, I used the challenge colors to stamp up a mix of flowers and leaves. I played around with the arrangement of pieces for a while before settling on what I used here.  The images were secured beneath the top right corner of a teal cardstock panel.  It's hard to see in the photo, but I added a little dimension to the flower cluster by dotting two of the flowers with enamel dot centers.  I topped the panel with a cream rectangle stamped with the elegant "thank you" sentiment from the Fabulous Florals set in matching teal ink.  The matted sentiment panel was adhered to a green dotted patterned paper panel over a piece of coral satin ribbon secured with a simple knot.  I matted the patterned panel on teal cardstock, then layered it on to a coordinating green card base.

Sending Hugs Your Way

Here's my monochromatic take on the current sketch at CAS(e) this Sketch.  I used different shades of pink with stamps and coordinating dies from Avery Elle to put this one together.  The card was built on a card base made the lightest shade of pink cardstock.  I used the "hugs" die from the Simply Said Hugs die set to cut the word "hugs" from a panel of one of the middle pink shades of cardstock.  The "sending" and "your way" sentiments were stamped around the die cut words and the negative space from the die cut word was filled in by backing the panel with a piece of the darkest pink cardstock.  I positioned the stamped and die cut strip near the bottom of the pale pink card base, then added the two narrow darker pink strips to the right of the sentiment panel.  For an accent, I tucked a small length of pale pink pom pom trim underneath the top of the sentiment panel.  The color coordinates with the rest of the pinks much better IRL, I promise!

You're My Type

Here's my card for the current challenge at Freshly Made Sketches.  I made a simple love themed design with a sentiment from Avery Elle's Lots of Love set as the focal point.  The sentiment I used has a text theme, so I paired it with a patterned paper panel featuring a repeated text pattern.  The text patterned paper was adhered to a coordinating blue card base.  I stamped the sentiment in navy blue ink to contrast with the slightly softer blue of the card base and the patterned paper.  After rounding the corners of the panel for a softer look, I matted the stamped panel on the same blue I used for the card base before adhering it to the cardfront.  For contrast, I added a red stitched heart die cut to the left side of the sentiment panel using foam tape for dimension.

Here's my card for the current challenge at CAS Colours and Sketches.  I used the row of raised hand images from Avery Elle's Hats Off stamp set to represent the layout's lineup of elements across the top of the card.  The images were colored with Copic markers, then fussy cut with sharp scissors, keeping them connected along the bottom to help me line them up when assembling the card.  I adhered a red cardstock panel beneath the line of images, using a narrow strip of gray cardstock to hide the seam between the image and the larger panel.  The set's "hats off to you" sentiment was stamped at the bottom of the red panel in black ink.  I used foam tape to place the panel at the bottom of a blue card base.

Sending Love

Here's my card for the current challenge at Global Design Project.  I created this love themed design by incorporating the rainbow striped color scheme and heart images from the inspiration piece.

My rainbow heart was made by adhering strips of cardstock fished out of my scrap pile to a piece of scrap cardstock, then cutting the striped piece with a stitched heart die.  The heart was adhered to a white cardstock panel using foam tape for dimension.  I combined two different stamps from the Lil' Inker Designs Sending You stamp set to get the "sending love" sentiment that I stamped beneath the heart in black ink.  I arranged a scattering of silver sequins above and below the heart to mimic the placement of the black hearts in the inspiration card, then adhered the panel to a purple card base.

Wishing You Joy

Merry Christmas!  I thought today would be an appropriate time to share the holiday card I made to send out to family and friends.  I did something I don't often do on this one--mixed a bunch of brands together on one design--and I'm really happy with how it turned out. 

The tall, narrow champagne glass from My Favorite Things was the first element I added to the gray panel.  The glass was cut from white vellum, then "filled" with a gold foil piece for extra sparkle.  I  used the large "joy" stamp from a limited edition Clear and Simple Stamps set for the main part of my sentiment.  It was stamped in Versamark on black die cut pieces, then heat embossed in gold sparkle embossing powder that I will probably never finish getting cleaned up from my crafting space...I used my MISTI to stamp the "wishing" you" and "this holiday season" text from Avery Elle's Sending Peace set to frame the large "joy" die cut.  The tool made it so easy to stamp quickly and know that all of the pieces would fit perfectly on the panel.  Once I'd stamped the words, I used foam tape to add the die cut word between them.  The finished panel was adhered to an easy to write on cream card base.

Color Throwdown 569-With Sympathy

It's time for another Color Throwdown!  Vickie is our hostess today with a floral inspired color combination--purple, lavender, and green.

I paired the colors with the current sketch at CAS(e) this Sketch to create a simple sympathy card.  I stamped up a bunch of small flowers and leaves in shades of purple, lavender, and green using Avery Elle's Fabulous Florals stamp set.  After cutting out the pieces with the matching dies, I arranged them at the top right corner of a small lavender panel matted on a slightly larger piece of green cardstock.  It's been a while since I used this stamp set and I'd forgotten how fun it is to play around with the arrangement of the images to create a pretty floral spray.

The layered panel was adhered to the top half of a lavender card base on an angle.  For the sentiment, I die cut "with sympathy" from purple cardstock using AE's With Sympathy dies.  The die cut words were adhered across the cardfront, overlapping both the layered panel and the card base.
