Color Throwdown 842-Let's Taco 'bout Your Birthday

 

It's time for another Color Throwdown! Kelly is our hostess for this week's challenge with a great mix of  colors--green, red, and orange.

 

I needed a birthday card, so I used the colors for this taco themed celebratory card. The tacos and birthday hat were made with Lawn Fawn's Year Nine stamp set. After coloring the stamped images with Copic markers, I cut them out by hand, then  positioned them on a white die cut circle. I placed the circle on an orange card base over a narrow strip of green cardstock edged with an even narrower strip of red cardstock. I stamped the taco themed birthday sentiment on more strips of red cardstock and adhered the text to the left of the images, using foam tape for dimension. The cardstock is super dark, so the sentiment looks more muted than I would have liked, especially in this photo... A trio of orange matte enamel dots arranged around the sentiment and image panel finished off the design.

Color Throwdown 841-Fall Thank You

It's time for another Color Throwdown! Lisa is our hostess this with a pretty mix of colors--terracotta, navy, and pale blue. 

 

I added in a little metallic shine for my take on the challenge. After die cutting a trio of leaves with stitched detailing from terracotta cardstock, I partially dipped them in copper embossing powder, heating it for a pretty shine. I arranged the leaves on a pale blue card base with a wide strip of contrasting navy cardstock near the bottom, using foam tape for dimension. A narrow strip of terracotta cardstock edges the bottom of the navy panel to tie the elements together. The "thank you so much" sentiment was heat embossed in the same copper as on the leaves for a final sparkly touch.

Color Throwdown 811-I'm Thankful for You

It's time for another Color Throwdown! Amy Rysavy is our hostess and she has an earthy, autumn inspired color palette for us--burnt orange, black, and sage.

The layout for my fall themed design is from the current challenge at Sunday Stamps. I used Lawn Fawn's Stitched Leaves dies to cut a trio of leaves from cardstock scraps. The leaves are adhered to a cream tag die cut using foam tape for dimension. I stamped "I'm thankful for you" from LF's You Autumn Know set at the bottom of the tag in black ink and added a gingham bow to the top. The tag is adhered to a piece of sage green cardstock embossed with a cable knit pattern. That texture just screams fall to me! I broke up the panel with a contrasting strip of burnt orange cardstock edged with a narrow strip of black. The panel was matted on a black cardstock panel, then adhered to a sage green card base.

Color Throwdown 805-Have a Berry Happy Birthday

It's time for another Color Throwdown! Susie is our challenge hostess this week with some sweet strawberry inspired colors--red, yellow, and green.

I love Lawn Fawn's Strawberry Patch dies and I couldn't resist the opportunity to use them for this week's challenge to create another birthday card to set aside to give to one of my work colleagues during the upcoming school year. After die cutting the berries and leafy branches, I arranged them on a sunny yellow card base. The berries were adhered with foam tape for a little dimension. I had room to stamp the "have a BERRY happy birthday" sentiment from LF's How You Bean? Strawberries Add-On set to the left of the berry branch. Originally the words were stamped directly on the cardfront, but I wasn't thrilled with how it looked. I ended up stamping the words again on a narrow strip of green cardstock and placing the strip over the words on the cardfront. A trio of red enamel dots around the berries finished the design.

Color Throwdown 798-Have a Berry Happy Birthday

It's time for another Color Throwdown! Lynn is our hostess with a great mix of colors--red, blue, and green.

I needed to make a birthday card for one of our school's secretaries and I knew these colors would be perfect for a berry themed birthday card. The layout for my design comes from the current challenge at TGIF Challenges. It was perfect for the cluster of bright red strawberries made with Lawn Fawn's Strawberry Patch dies. After I die cut the leafy branch, it was adhered directly to a blue cardstock panel, then dotted with the berries. For interest, I used foam tape to place the berries. I die cut a fishtail flag strip from green cardstock to use for the sentiment. The green contrasts nicely with the blue background panel. I stamped the "have a berry happy birthday" sentiment from LF's Berry Special stamp set on the strip in slightly darker green ink, then added it to the panel, tucking one end beneath a raised berry die cut. The finished panel was adhered to an easy to write on white card base.

Color Throwdown 771-Bundle of Joy

It's time for another Color Throwdown! Amy Rysavy is our hostess this week with a pretty mix of colors--blue, green, and peach.

My school is having a baby shower next week for a teacher who will be having a baby girl at the end of December, so I used the colors to make a card for the occasion. I made a simple scene using the stork image from Lawn Fawn's Plus One stamp set and the stitched sun and cloud dies from LF's Spring Showers. The stork was stamped on white cardstock and colored just a bit with Copic markers. The bundle was paper pieced with a scrap of peach patterned cardstock. I used foam tape to place the image on a blue panel with a strip of green "grass" along the bottom that I created with a border punch. The die cut sun and clouds were added to the top of the panel to balance out the scene. I adhered the panel to the left side of a peach card base. The "bundle of joy" sentiment was stamped on a narrow strip of white cardstock and added to the bottom of the cardfront overlapping the image panel using foam tape.

Color Throwdown 764-Have a Ball

It's time for another Color Throwdown! Amy Rohl is our hostess this week with a mix of colors inspired by nature--green, orange, and blue.

I paired the colors with the current challenge at Try Stampin' on Tuesday for this basketball themed birthday card that I'll give to my dad later this month. The images for my card come from Lawn Fawn's All-Star stamp set. The images were stamped in black ink and colored with Copic markers, then carefully cut out. I made a background panel for the trio of basketball images from blue on blue dotted patterned paper blocks arranged on an orange cardstock panel. The orange panel was layered on green cardstock before I placed it on the left side of a coordinating blue card base. The "it's your birthday" and "have a ball" sentiments were stamped on a curve to match the shape of the round sentiment panel. I added the basketball net in the center, using foam tape to set it off from the words. After matting the panel on a slightly larger orange circle, I added it to the cardfront, tucking it underneath the raised basketball image on the lowest dotted panel.

I paired the colors with the current challenge at The Paper Players for this fall themed thank you design. My focal panel features two die cut rust leaves dipped in gold embossing powder for extra sparkle. The leaves were adhered to a round cream panel using foam tape, then placed on a moss green panel with four kraft cardstock strips evenly spaced (or as evenly as I was able to space them...) on it. I stamped the "you really autumn know...I'm thankful for you" sentiment from Lawn Fawn's You Autumn Know stamp set on a moss cardstock strip. After adding foam tape to the ends of the strip, I positioned it over the image panel. The green panel was placed on a cream card base to complete the design.

Color Throwdown 760-Better Days Are Ahead

It's time for another Color Throwdown! Wanda is our hostess this week with a fun mix of colors--blue, navy, and yellow.

The layout for my design is based on the current challenge at TGIF Challenges. I cut a circle from blue dotted paper, then cut it into 1/2" strips before reassembling it on a blue cardstock panel. The round panel was dressed up with a yellow stitched die cut sun and a pair of shimmery white stitched clouds, all adhered with foam tape for dimension. I cut raindrops from navy cardstock and positioned them beneath the clouds. The navy is a nice contrast to the lighter blue. I brought in more navy by stamping the "better days are ahead" sentiment from Lawn Fawn's Better Days stamp set along the lower right side of the circle. The finished panel was adhered to a navy card base.

Color Throwdown 759- Happy Birthday Drink

It's time for another Color Throwdown! Vickie is our hostess this week with an autumnal mix of colors plus a splash of metallic--orange, red, maroon, and gold.

One of the secretaries at my school is celebrating a birthday, so I used the challenge colors to make a card for her. The layout is from the current challenge at Try Stampin' on Tuesday. My focal image is a fun drink created with Lawn Fawn's Build-a-Drink dies. I used vellum for the liquid, coloring it with a blend of red and orange distress inks before placing it inside the glass die cut. The glass is layered over a cream card base with a trio of diagonal strips across the lower left corner. The top and bottom strips are orange layered over maroon cardstock. The middle strip is a fun gold dotted washi tape. I stamped the birthday sentiment from LF's All the Party Hats set on a cream strip and matted it on gold foil cardstock. The sentiment strip was layered on to the cardfront using foam tape for dimension. For fun pops of color, I added a red umbrella with a shiny gold handle and an orange slice along with a trio of gold sequins.

Color Throwdown 758-Some Bunny Is on the Way

It's time for another Color Throwdown! Lynn is our hostess this week with a floral inspired mix of colors--pink, green, magenta, and white.

I used the colors to create a baby card for a colleague who is expecting a baby girl. The layout for the design is based on the current Sunday Stamps challenge. My focal panel features a pair of bunnies from Lawn Fawn's Hello Baby set. I added just a bit of color to the big bunny's ears, then added a bit of texture by putting white flock on the bunny tails to make cute, fluffy cottontails. I placed the bunnies on a pink and white panel with a green stitched "hillside" along the bottom. A tiny die cut magenta heart was placed between the pair. I matted the panel on magenta cardstock before placing it on the right side of a white panel with a debossed dot pattern centered on a magenta card base. I stamped the "some bunny is on the way" sentiment on a pink strip and matted it on magenta cardstock. The sentiment was adhered to the cardfront using foam tape to finish the design.

Color Throwdown 753-You're the Zest

It's time for another Color Throwdown! Broni is our hostess with a mix of colors inspired by a floral tablescape--pink, aqua, yellow, and lime.

The yellow and lime made me think of lemon and lime, so I ran with it! The layout comes from the current challenge at The Paper Players. For my focal image panel, I die cut a lemon, lime, and some leaves from cardstock scraps. The pieces were assembled then arranged on an aqua circle. For dimension, I adhered the lemon and lime with foam tape, which let me tuck the leaves underneath. I placed the round panel on the left side of a lemon yellow card base over a lime green cardstock panel topped with an offset lemony yellow striped patterned paper panel. The "you're the zest!" sentiment from Lawn Fawn's You're the Zest stamp set was stamped on a pink cardstock strip and layered over the die cut lemon to finish the card with a contrasting pop of color. Another thank you card to add to my stash!

Color Throwdown 750-Flying By

It's time for another Color Throwdown! Wanda is our hostess this week with a pretty mix of colors--pink, gray, and teal.

I paired the colors with the layout from the current Sunday Stamps challenge and some new stamps from Lawn Fawn. This sweet mini slimline design was perfect for the paper airplane flying mouse duo from LF's Just Plane Awesome stamp set. I colored up the image with Copic markers, then carefully cut it out with super sharp scissors. I used foam tape to place the image on a dotted pattern paper panel. Before adding the image, I stamped the sentiments using black ink and my MISTI. The MISTI helped me to get the positioning just right. I placed a pair of small shimmery white clouds die cut with LF's All the Clouds dies to complete the visual triangle on the panel, then matted it on coordinating cardstock before placing it on a pink card base with an narrow gray strip at the right edge.

Color Throwdown 745-You're the Zest

It's time for another Color Throwdown! Susie is our hostess this week with a great color combination--yellow, green, and white.

I paired the colors with the current challenge from The Paper Players for a lemon themed thank you card. My focal image is a pair of lemons stamped with the image from Lawn Fawn's You're the Zest stamp set. I colored the images with Copic markers and carefully cut them out by hand. The lemons were adhered to a green strip using foam tape for dimension. I added the strip to a white card base with a lemony yellow panel dressed up with a strip of yellow patterned paper with diagonal stripes. The patterned panel was matted on green cardstock to set it off from the yellow background and tie it together with the background for the lemons. The set's "you're the zest" sentiment was stamped to the right of the lemon duo to finish the design.

Color Throwdown 743-Berry Birthday

It's time for another Color Throwdown! Broni is our hostess this week with a refreshing mix of colors--pink, lime, and white. 

I paired the colors with the current sketch from Try Stampin' on Tuesday for a berry themed birthday card that's already in the hands of its recipient. The berries were die cut using a die from Lawn Fawn. I arranged them on a white square using foam tape for dimension. The birthday sentiment from LF's Berry Special stamp set fit perfectly at the bottom of the panel.

I matted the panel on a lime square, then adhered it to a white card base over a pink strip with a piece of white suede ribbon in the middle. The ribbon was edged with narrow green scalloped strips to tie all the elements together.

Color Throwdown 739-Hello Sunshine

 It's time for another Color Throwdown! Vickie is our hostess this week with a pretty color combination--celery green, yellow, and aqua.

I paired the colors with the current sketch at Try Stampin' on Tuesday plus stamps and dies from Lawn Fawn for my card for the challenge. I adhered an aqua on aqua dotted panel edged with a narrow strip of matching cardstock to the left side of a celery card base. The "sun," cut from yellow cardstock with a pinking circle die, was tucked beneath the right side of the patterned panel. I added a pair of shimmery white stitched cloud die cuts at the bottom of the round panel, using foam tape for dimension. The "hello sunshine" sentiment from LF's Hello Sunshine stamp set was stamped in blue ink at the left side of the patterned paper panel parallel to the solid cardstock strip at the panel's edge.

Color Throwdown 735-Slam Dunk

It's time for another Color Throwdown! Susie is our hostess this week with a fun mix of colors--blue, brown, and rust. We're also excited to welcome a new team member this week. The amazing Kelly Schirmer will be joining the CTD team starting with today's challenge. We can't wait to see what she creates for the team!

Since it's March Madness season, I went with a basketball themed design using this trio of colors. My layout is from the current challenge at Try Stampin' on Tuesday. I used Lawn Fawn's All-Star set for my card, stamping the basketball net and basketball on white cardstock and coloring the images with Copic markers. The colored images were adhered to a white panel using foam tape for dimension. For interest, I used the smallest die in LF's Stitched Trails die set to create a "path" for my basketball. To ground the images, I used a thin pen to draw lines on the bottom of the panel and colored them with kraft colored markers to create a hardwood-ish floor. The edges of the panel were rounded with a corner rounder before I adhered it to a slightly larger brown cardstock panel with rounded edges, too. The "hope your day is a slam dunk" sentiment was heat embossed at the bottom of the panel in white ink. I added a trio of gold star brads in different sizes on the left side of the panel before adhering it to the bold navy card base.

Color Throwdown 733-You're the Zest

I used Lawn Fawn's You're the Zest stamp set and the current sketch from Try Stampin' on Tuesday to create this card. The lemon image was colored with Copic markers, then cut out by hand. I layered a patterned lemon yellow circle and a pale green long fishtail flag strip on to a pale blue card base. The sentiment was stamped on a white panel in black ink. I matted the text on a strip of light blue to match the card base before adding it over the panels on the cardfront. The lemon was adhered on top using foam tape to complete the design.

Color Throwdown 732-Rain or Shine

It's time for another Color Throwdown! This week our colors are coral, yellow, blue, and navy.

I paired the colors with the current sketch from The Paper Players for this simple square card. I used Lawn Fawn's classic Spring Showers die set to make a sky scene with a sun, clouds, and raindrops. The stitched elements on the dies add interest to the simple shapes as does the shimmery white paper I used for the clouds. The raindrops were cut out from a round blue cardstock panel. Matting the circle on a slightly larger navy circle provided contrast while filling in the negative space from the die cut drops. I adhered the circle to the center of a yellow panel, then used phrases from LF's Here for You Bear and Beary Rainy Days stamp sets to create the sentiment on coral strips placed at the bottom of the panel. The finished panel was adhered to a square navy blue card base.

Color Throwdown 724-You Make My Heart Smile

It's time for another Color Throwdown! Amy Rohl is our hostess this week with combination of neutrals with a pop of color--black, gray, magenta, and white.

I paired the challenge colors with some new goodies from Lawn Fawn's latest release. My focal image is the balloon-toting mouse from the All My Heart stamp set. The image was colored with Copic markers then carefully cut out by hand. I used foam tape to position the image over a pair of die cut shimmery white clouds on a gray card base. The "you make my heart smile" sentiment was stamped in white pigment ink on a black cardstock strip then heat embossed in white to really pop against the background. I adhered the sentiment to the left side of the cardfront beneath the focal cluster of elements.
