You're My Universe

Here’s my card for the current Paper Smooches Sparks trend watch challenge. I used this week’s Mojo Monday sketch along with a world themed image and muted, earthy colors for my card.

Since the map image was printed in yellow-gold on a creamy background, I used a yellow-gold striped paper to cover most of my cardfront. I added a few layers of other muted papers, including a grid patterned one in a nod to the map’s grid. The grid panel’s inked around the edges with some distress ink for a more weathered look. Each layer was matted on kraft in keeping with the earthy feel. Instead of using a strip of cardstock or ribbon along the right side of the card underneath the layered panels, I wrapped some natural twine around the card and secured it with a kraft colored button.

For the focal image, I used the globe from the Smarty Pants set. I colored it in softer blues and greens than I normally would and used dimensional dots to attach the colored earth to the globe stand. The “you’re my universe” sentiment is from the Space Cadet set. I stamped it in Toffee Crunch ink—my new favorite kraft colored ink—on a kraft notch ended strip. I debated adding a red heart or even a silver brad heart to the globe, but in the end, decided to leave it plain.
