Over the Edge
This week's CAS-ual Fridays challenge theme is "over the edge." I used a pair of Paper Smooches stamp sets to create this simple child-friendly birthday card to meet the challenge. And, speaking of Paper Smooches, did you see the big news here? I'm so excited to be a part of the Sparks challenge team starting in November!
Here's the card. I designed a clean and simple birthday card featuring two long birthday candles I created from cardstock rectangles. Each rectangle is stamped with the solid dot stamp from the Primary set in a color matching the cardstock. Unfortunately, the red doesn't show up as well on the red as I'd have liked . . . The rectangles are arranged on the left side of a dotted yellow patterned paper panel. I stamped the "happy birthday" sentiment from the Sentiment Sampler set on a yellow notch-ended strip and layered that over both the candles and the patterned paper panel. It's anchored with a red button tied with matching baker's twine.
My "over the edge" element is the flames on the candles. I used a circle punch to make two flame-like shapes and adhered them to the tops of the rectangles. They're covered with Yellow Stickles for a sparkly look. And, I was actually thinking ahead when I made this card and cut the card base a little smaller on both sides so that the card will still fit in a standard envelope even with the flames extending beyond the card's top edge. That thinking ahead doesn't happen too often, so I wanted to give myself credit for it!
Materials Used:
from i {heart} papers: Paper Smooches Primary and Sentiment Sampler stamp sets, Tsukineko Memento Tuxedo Black, Lady Bug, and Bahama Blue inks, Jillibean Soup Yellow Salt-Soup Staples 2 Collection Kit, Divine Twine Cherry Red baker's twine, Ranger Yellow Stickles
other: Brocade Blue, Real Red, and Daffodil Delight cardstock (Stampin' Up!); white cardstock (Xerox)
