Poppy Birthday

Here’s a simple birthday card for Verve’s current Diva Dare to incorporate a tag on your project. I made a tag the focal image on this birthday card using Verve's new Poppy Birthday set.

The tag was die cut from white cardstock using a pierced tag die. I stamped the poppy trio image on the tag in black ink and heat embossed the image with clear embossing powder. I did the heat embossing so I could watercolor the image using distress markers and a water brush. After doing the coloring, I realize I probably should have cut the tag from watercolor paper instead . . .

Anyway, the tag is topped with a piece of knotted red grosgrain ribbon rescued from my scrap pile. I stamped the set’s “happy birthday” sentiment on a narrow red cardstock strip and adhered it to the tag just beneath the poppies. The finished tag is adhered to a piece of patterned paper on top of a piece of white paper doily. The doily scrap was lying on my table from another project and it seemed to work nicely here. I set the patterned paper panel on top of a Crushed Curry card base—not a color I use a lot, but it ended up being a good match for the patterned paper.

Materials Used:
Poppy Birthday stamp set (Verve Stamps); Versafine Onyx Black ink (Tsukineko); Barn Door, Fired Brick, and Forest Moss distress markers (Ranger); Crushed Curry, Real Red, and Whisper White cardstock (Stampin’ Up!); Serendipity 6x6 paper pad (Basic Grey); clear embossing powder, red grosgrain ribbon (Michaels); white paper doily
