Hippo Birdie to You

While I'm waiting for my new Lawn Fawn goodies to arrive from i {heart} papers, I thought I'd put together a card using some of the Lawn Fawn stamps, dies, and papers currently in my stash. I combined this week's sketch from Freshly Made Sketches with the current distress themed Lawnscaping challenge to create this birthday card.

Hippo Birdie to You birthday card-designed by Lori Tecler/Inking Aloud-stamps and dies from Lawn Fawn
I used the sweet hippo and birdie from the Year Four set for my card.  The animals were stamped on watercolor paper in black pigment ink, then heat embossed and colored with an aquapainter and a combination of distress ink pads and markers.  I used the matching dies to cut out the finished images.

I used more distress inks and a larger paintbrush to make the green strip that I used beneath the animals.  After watercoloring the strip, I dripped a bit of water over it to get a mottled look.  Once it dried, I stamped the "hippo birdie to you" sentiment on the panel, then adhered it to a blue card base over a piece of pink striped paper.  I arranged a trio of white enamel dots around the panel, echoing the water dots on the paper.  The animals were added to the cardfront using dimensional dots.  I hadn't originally planned to use the set's balloon image, but I went back and tucked it underneath the animal images.  I like the little pop of bright color it adds to the card.

Materials Used:
from i {heart} papers:  Lawn Fawn Year Four stamp set, Year Four dies, and Let's Polka patterned paper; Tsukineko Memento Luxe Tuxedo Black ink; Doodlebug Design Lily White Sprinkles enamel dots; Sticky Thumb dimensional dots

other:  Lake House cardstock (WPlus9); Regal Rose and Old Olive cardstock, black embossing powder (Stampin' Up!); Peeled Paint, Mowed Lawn, and Weathered Wood distress inks, Mustard Seed and Ripe PersimmonWorn Lipstick, and Barn Door distress markers (Ranger)
