Oh My Stars (and Stripes)

In honor of today's Independence Day holiday, I have a pair of celebratory cards to share today.  The first is based on a sketch from the Clean and Simple Stamping blog.

Oh My Stars card-designed by Lori Tecler/Inking Aloud-stamps and dies from Lil' Inker Designs
I started out with a blue card base with a little bit trimmed off of the right edge of the cardfront.  To get the contrasting navy blue at the card's right edge, I adhered a strip of navy cardstock to the inside of the card base.  Another narrow navy strip was adhered to the cardfront a little bit to the left of the cut edge.

Once I finished the stripes on the cardfront, I added the stars.  I used the Lil' Inker Designs stitched star dies to cut a bunch of different sized stars from gold paper.  They're scattered over the cardfront and adhered with foam tape for dimension.  The star on the far right was strategically positioned so that it would help to hold the cardfront closed when the cut edge was tucked underneath it.  The "oh my stars" sentiment from the Shiny Happy Sentiments set was stamped in gold ink, then heat embossed in gold for even more sparkle and shine.

Check back a little later on this morning for my second card . . .

Materials Used:
Shiny Happy Sentiments stamp set and stitched star dies (Lil' Inker Designs); Pacific Point and Night of Navy cardstock (Stampin' Up!); gold paper (Target); Delicata Golden Glitz ink (Tsukineko); gold embossing powder (Michaels); foam tape
