It's Your Day to Shine

The current challenge at Where Creativity Meets C9 is to create a one layer design.  I tend to do pretty uncluttered designs, but I usually end up layering an element or two for dimension, so this was a real challenge for me!  Here's what I came up with using Concord & 9th's Shine Brighter stamp set.

It's Your Day to Shine card-designed by Lori Tecler/Inking Aloud-stamps from Concord & 9th
I stamped the light bulb elements and sentiment on a white panel using black pigment ink.  The images were heat embossed with black embossing powder so that I could watercolor them, yet another challenge for me!  I did my watercoloring with Clean Color markers and an aqua brush.  The light bulb got a super pale blue wash, then a pale yellow glow around it.  The glow fades out a little more IRL than in the photo so it doesn't look as harsh in person.  I was pretty pleased with how it turned out, given my limited watercoloring skills.  For a fun sparkle, I coated the yellow with a bit of clear glitter from a glitter pen.  I really wanted to accent the image with a few sequins, but I kept with the one layer restriction . . .

Materials Used:
Shine Brighter stamp set (Concord & 9th); Memento Luxe Tuxedo Black ink (Tsukineko/IMAGINE Crafts); Clean Color markers (Zig); clear Sparkle glitter pen (Spectrum Noir); black embossing powder (Stampin' Up!)
