All you'll need for this tote is a piece of cardstock and some Sticky Strip. Sticky Strip is definitely the best adhesive for this project. SNAIL or MonoAdhesive just aren't strong enough. Start with an 8 1/2" by 5 1/4" piece of cardstock. Hold the paper vertically (so it is tall). Using a scoring blade in your paper cutter(or whatever tool you use to create a score line), score the paper at 1" and again at 4 1/4".
Turn your cardstock. Score the paper at 3 1/2" and again at 5".
Your paper will now look like this. For the purposes of this tutorial, I've traced over the score lines with a dark marker so you can see them better. Using your scissors, cut where you see the XXXX's in the photo. These will make the flaps to fold and hold your tote together.
Apply Sticky Strip to the cardstock as shown . Be careful to place the Sticky Strip close to the edge of the cardstock on the large panels. There's not a big amount of overlap on these sides and you want to be sure there will be adhesive where they meet. Remember that Sticky Strip isn't real forgiving--where you stick it is where it will stay!
To assemble, fold the inside (smaller) flaps up first. Fold up the sides of the tote without the Sticky Strip on them and adhere the sides of the panel to the inside flaps. Then, fold up the other side of the tote. This side has the Sticky Strip on it.
Here's how the finished, but plain, tote will look. Now comes the fun part--decorate as you want. With a little ribbon, some patterned paper (I used a 2" by 3 1/2" strip of patterned paper for mine), and other fun embellishments, you have a great gift package. It will comfortably hold 4 3x3 cards and envelopes.
Here are two another sets I created earlier. The one on the left uses Taking Shape from the SU! Winter Mini catalog (materials info here in my SCS gallery).
