Blogger Challenge: Week 15

This week's challenge for the blogger challenge group was to use orange and black. This was hard for me--I do not usually "do" orange. If use orange, it's usually more of an accent than a focus. After some thought, I decided to resist my initial impulse (and the more obvious, easier route) to do something with a Halloween theme and go with a more general fall one.

Since I got the Autumn Fest set as part of the SU! Fall Frenzy promotion at the end of last month, I decided to break the set out for this challenge. At convention, there was a demo on stage with this set. One of the things shown was to ink the leaf image, then color the leaf's veins with a darker marker to add depth to the image.

So, I decided to give that a try here. I inked the leaf stamp in Pumpkin Pie, then rolled the edges in Really Rust (kinda orange!). I used a Close to Cocoa marker to highlight the veins, then stamped the leaf image on a piece of Whisper White cardstock. I added a little bit of sparkle along the veins using a Stardust gel pen--I wish it showed up in the photo! You can see it a bit more in the close-up view here, but I promise, it looks great IRL.

I arranged the matted leaf images on a piece of orange textured cardstock. The sentiment is from the So Many Sayings set. I stamped it directly on the cardstock and even got it pretty close to straight without a stamp positioner!

Be sure to check out what my other blogger buddies have done with this week's challenge. You can find links to their blogs in the sidebar to the right.

Autumn Fest and So Many Sayings stamp sets, Pumpkin Pie, Really Rust, and Basic Black Classic inks, Basic Black and Whisper White cardstock, Close to Cocoa marker, black grosgrain (Stampin' Up!); orange brads (Making Memories); orange textured cardstock (American Traditional Designs)
