Blogger Challenge: Week 54

This week's challenge was to use color blocking in your project. I thought this would make a great background for highlighting the pretty, summery hibiscus images from the three-step Hibiscus set from Kitchen Sink Stamps.

I went with a monochromatic color scheme for the card, digging into my stash for a variety of pink/red inks and papers. The flowers are stamped on shimmery white cardstock using a combination of Sweet Blush, Regal Rose, and Rose Red for the flowers and Purely Pomegranate for the flower centers. I added a single leaf between the blossoms using Certainly Celery and Old Olive inks. I cut out the flowers with a large Nestabilities circle die and layered the panel on a larger scalloped circle.

The card base is Purely Pomegranate. I used Sweet Blush, Pretty in Pink, and Regal Rose for the color blocks. So it will stand out, the sentiment is stamped in the dark Purely Pomegranate.

Such a feminine card required some feminine embellishments. I knotted a piece of pink satin ribbon just below the sentiment and a trio of flat-backed pearls at the bottom of the large light pink strip. I added a photo corner to the top right corner to balance out the layout.

For some other great ideas for using color blocking, check out the other challenge participants' blogs. You can find links to their blogs in the sidebar on the right.

I'll be back later today to share a fun, holiday themed project . . .
