Blogger Challenge: Week 59
The theme for this week's challenge is "the same, but different." The challenge was to create two cards, each with the same layout, but using different color combinations and images on each card. I decided to turn to one of my go-to layouts, the one I use when I need something quick and sure.
One of my co-workers recently took a new position, so I made this card with her in mind. I inked the "congratulations" image from the Say it With Scallops stamp set (this was the set that UPS "delivered" to demos at convention last week) using red and yellow markers, then stamped it on a scrap of white cardstock. The images in this set are designed to fit SU!'s new scalloped square punch, but here, I chose to use circles for the image. I covered the star with Dazzling Diamonds and layered the panel on some coordinating circles.
The vellum panel along the bottom of the card is inked with the Classic Stars Jumbo Wheel using white craft ink. I attached it to the cardfront stamped side down to get a subtle, opaque look. This layout is great for using a vellum panel since the adhesive for the vellum is hidden by the panels layered over the top edge.
Materials Used:
Say It with Scallops and Classic Backgrounds stamp sets, Classic Stars Jumbo Wheel and handle, Yoyo Yellow Classic ink, White Craft ink, Yoyo Yellow and Real Red markers, Ballet Blue, Real Red, Yoyo Yellow, and Whisper White cardstock, vellum, 1 3/8" circle punch, scallop circle punch, mat pack and paper piercing tool, white gel pen, Dazzling Diamonds, dimensionals (Stampin' Up!); red satin ribbon (Target); Threaded Water punch (Fiskars); 1 1/2" circle punch (EK Success)
For the second card, I went with a more subtle color combo. I used a monochromatic color scheme featuring three of SU!'s shades of pink--Regal Rose, Pretty in Pink, and Pink Pirouette. I wheeled the Scatter Sunshine Jumbo Wheel across the top of the Regal Rose cardfront in Regal Rose ink.
I used one of the two step flower images from Simply Said, embellished with a rhinestone brad, for the main image on the card. The large panel across the front is a piece of Pretty in Pink patterned paper from the Print Series hostess pack. I stamped the sentiment directly on the patterned paper in darker Regal Rose ink and tied a piece of wide white grosgrain ribbon around the panel.
Materials Used:
Simply Said stamp set, Scatter Sunshine Jumbo Wheel and handle, Regal Rose and Pretty in Pink Classic inks, Regal Rose, Pretty in Pink, Pink Pirouette, and Whisper White cardstock, Pretty in Pink Prints Series designer paper, rhinestone brad, scallop circle punch, 1 3/8" circle punch, dimensionals, scallop edge punch (Stampin' Up!); white grosgrain ribbon (Michaels); 1 1/2" circle punch (EK Success)
And, here's a final example of this layout. This is one of the cards I swapped at the SU! convention last week. On this one, I used the small butterfly image from Happy Heart Day. I stamped the butterfly image a second time on vellum, covered the wings with Dazzling Diamonds, then cut out the wings and attached them to the stamped image.
Materials Used (all from Stampin' Up!):
Happy Heart Day and Sprinkles stamp sets, Cameo Coral and Basic Black Classic inks, Cameo Coral, Bravo Burgundy, and Barely Banana cardstock, vellum, Dazzling Diamonds, Barely Banana and Cameo Coral markers, 1 3/8" circle punch, scallop circle punch, slit punch, 1/8" handheld punch, dimensional
So, there you have it--one layout, three ways. If you want to see what the other challenge participants have created for this week's challenge, you'll find links to their blogs in the sidebar on the right.
