Saturday Sketch at Paper Craft Planet

Happy Saturday! It's especially happy for me since it's the start of a four day weekend due to Monday's holiday and Tuesday's presidential inauguration (in addition to the significance of the event, it's not going to be easy to get around in the DC area, so schools are closed).

Not only that, it’s time for the weekly sketch challenge at Paper Craft Planet and guess what? I’m this week’s hostess. I used my Photoshop Elements program to draw my very first card layout sketch. I wasn't too sure about how to go about it, but I found that it didn’t take too long to figure it out and I think I might even be able to do it again . . .

Here’s the card I made based on this sketch. It uses images from the new DoodleFactory Valentine Remix set and matching sentiments from Starving Artistamps. Banjo is colored with Copic markers. I stamped the little bag on a scrap and cut that out, then attached it to his “hands” with a dimensional.

I used the small open heart image from the set to create the patterned panel on the left side of the card. I randomly stamped the image tone on tone, then stamped the “you stole my heart” sentiment in bold black ink. I used my paper piercing tool to make a row of piercing to highlight the sentiment.

I arranged the pieces, then added a few simple embellishments. I thought about adding a felt heart where you see the knotted ribbon, but liked the look of the ribbon better. I was able to incorporate a few more hearts by adding some silver heart shaped brads to the photo corner I placed on the image.

I can’t wait to see what people come up with using this sketch. If you give it a try, be sure to upload to the Paper Craft Planet gallery with the keyword sk011709 so it can be added to this week’s sketch challenge album.

Materials Used:
DoodleFactory Valentine Remix and sentiments (Starving Artistamps); white cardstock (Xerox); Tuxedo Black ink (Memento); markers (Copic Ciao); Real Red Classic ink, Real Red, Baja Breeze, Basic Gray, and Basic Black cardstock, photo corner punch, mat pack and paper piercing tool, dimensionals (Stampin’ Up!); heart brads (Making Memories; black satin ribbon (Michaels)

And, here’s another card featuring images from the Valentine Remix set. I used a sketch from 2 Sketches 4 You to make this one. I’ve thought about the sketch on and off all week and finally figured out a way to approach it.

The card front is very simple, just an embossed heart panel layered over a Kraft card base. I added a scalloped heart embossed panel and some ribbon as embellishment.

The part of the card that was challenging for me was the panel that hangs over the right edge of the card. I stamped and colored the envelope image, then trimmed around it. I used dimensionals to attach it to a scalloped rectangle panel. I wish the heart shaped Nestabilities dies I just ordered were here—I would have liked to put the envelope on a heart instead of a rectangle . . . Anyway, I stamped the “special delivery” sentiment along the corners of the rectangle. I think that helps it to stand out a bit.

I haven't gotten a chance to do it just yet, but I'll be adding a button on my blog's sidebar with a discount code for Starving Artistamps for my readers. When you enter the code “savetenLT” at checkout, you’ll save 10% on your DoodleFactory and Starving Artistamps stamp purchases. Happy shopping!
