Here's my card for today's SCS sketch challenge. I thought the images and matching sentiments in the new SU! hostess set Comfort Food were so cute, so it made my first order from the new catalog. I used it for the first time on this quick card.
I colored the loaf image in with Copic markers and added just a little glitter to highlight the heart on the loaf pan. I matted the image on Riding Hood Red and Kraft rectangles, then set it on a panel from the Candy Lane designer paper pack.
The strip along the side of the image is "faux suede," made by tearing apart layers of cardstock and exposing the fibers inside. I added a trio of brads to add some interest to the panel. then layered everything on a Close to Cocoa panel and a Riding Hood Red card base.
Materials Used:
Comfort Food stamp set, Riding Hood Red, Chocolate Chip, Close to Cocoa, and Kraft cardstock, Candy Lane designer paper, Dazzling Diamonds, Chocolate Chip 5/8" grosgrain ribbon, silver brads, dimensionals (Stampin' Up!); white cardstock (Xerox); Tuxedo Black ink (Memento); markers (Copic Ciao)
And, just to mix things up a little, here's a non-love themed card, too. This one is for this week’s Viva la Verve sketch challenge. This is a little bit of a different color combination for me, but I really like it. It was inspired by the black and lime-ish patterned paper I recently picked up in the dollar section at Michaels.
When I saw the sketch, I knew that I wanted to use images from
Verve’s Floral Whimsy set on the oval panel. I embossed the flower bunch with black embossing powder on a piece of shimmery white cardstock. I used my (way too wet and leaky—guess I need a replacement!) aqua painter and Gable Green reinker to color in the images.
I cut a piece of the patterned paper for the panel on the cardfront. The edges are rounded with a corner rounder. It looks nice with the round shape of the images on the paper. I attached a green strip with a black satin ribbon around it across the patterned paper panel, then layered on the oval image panel. I found some matching green rhinestones in my stash as embellishments. They stand out nicely against the dark background. I layered the patterned panel on a coordinating Gable Green panel, then attached it to a black card base to complete the card. I need to go back and add a white panel to the inside of the card so that the sender can actually use the card . . .
Materials Used:
Floral Whimsy stamp set (Verve Stamps); Gable Green Classic reinker, Versamark, Gable Green, Basic Black, and Shimmery White cardstock, Black embossing powder, corner rounder, aquapainter, dimensionals (Stampin’ Up!); patterned paper (Colorbok); green self-adhesive rhinestones (Darice); oval and scalloped oval dies (Nestabilities); black satin ribbon (Target)
Love both cards :)
