Unity Challenge: Week 22

This week’s Unity Addicts challenge comes from Carole. She challenged us to use a non-Valentine stamp to create a Valentine—and include ribbon and buttons along the way, too.

The Lovin’ from the Oven set is my favorite non-Valentine set to use for this kind of purpose. The cute oven mitt and the “hey hottie” sentiment make for a fun non-traditional Valentine. Here, I stamped the mitt in red cardstock and trimmed around it. It’s layered on a pair of scallop edged panels to coordinate with the patterned paper on the cardfront.

I wrapped a piece of Martha Stewart seam binding around the card. The seam binding is threaded through the holes of the button and then tied around it to hold the button in place. This stuff is really soft and easy to tie, so it wasn’t a problem to thread it through the small button holes.

For more ideas on using non-Valentine images to create Valentine’s Day cards, you can visit the rest of the Addicts. You can find links to their blogs in the sidebar on the right.

Materials Used:
Lovin’ from the Oven stamp kit (Unity Stamp Co.); Real Red Classic ink, Real Red, Soft Sky, Taken with Teal, and Whisper White cardstock, scallop edge punch, dimensionals (Stampin’ Up!); Tuxedo Black ink (Memento); blue seam binding tape (Martha Stewart); button (Walmart); patterned paper (DCWV Fall Paper Stack)
