Blogger Challenge: Week 96
This week’s blogger challenge was to alter something. I picked up a bunch of these small treat tins at the dollar store a while ago and I’ve used them for a few projects (here and here), but I still have quite a few sitting around. I thought I’d try something different with them for this challenge.
I made them in to shaker magnets. This is a quick and easy project and one that would be a lot of fun for kids to do.
First, I found a few different images that would fit inside the bottom of the tin. I stamped the image, then punched it out with a circle punch. I layered it on a contrasting cardstock circle just a bit larger, then adhered that circle to the bottom of the tin.
I embellished the outside of the tin by adding a narrow strip of coordinating designer paper to the bottom of the tin. Be careful when doing this, because if the paper covers where the bottom and lid overlap, it might make the tin too thick to allow the bottom and lid to fit together to close. I tied a piece of narrow grosgrain ribbon around the lid for a little more decoration. They were hard to photograph because of their shape and the clear lid--sorry the photo's not better! They're much cuter IRL.
For the shaker part, I poured in just a few seed beads. To keep the tin sealed, I used a little Mono Multi around the edge of the lid, then closed the tin tight. This stuff really sticks! The final step was adding a disk magnet on the back of the tin.
