Rose Bowl Revisited

Clear & Simple Stamps is releasing a bunch of new sets on August 15. I have a sneak peek of one of those new sets to share with you today. My long-time blog readers know that I’m a big sports fan (definitely not an athlete, but a sports fan none the less—LOL!), so I was really excited to see all of the fun sports themed sets included in this release.

This is an 8x8 scrapbook page I made with some of the images from the Football set. I was lucky enough to go to the Rose Bowl in 1994 to see my alma mater, the University of Wisconsin-Madison, play in the big game. I had just been to the Super Bowl the year before, but I have to say that the Rose Bowl experience topped that one by far! My parents and my sister and I (all UW alums!) traveled cross-country to attend the game. Tickets were extremely hard to come by, but we had great seats. The stadium was filled with red-wearing Wisconsin fans, even though the game was against home team UCLA. It took until the last seconds, but Wisconsin secured a win.

My photo’s lousy—taken from the bleacher seating with an old 35mm camera—but holds special memories. I went with a red and white color scheme to match the colors of the Badger uniforms and to match my memories of the day, too.

I picked up the fun football patterned twill at the Great American Scrapbooking Convention with this set in mind, so I knew I’d have to include it on my page. It made a perfect border for the star patterned designer paper from October Afternoon. The title/sentiment is stamped in red ink on a white panel, then layered on part of a Top Note die, tucked under the patterned paper strip. It makes a nice frame for the title. I added a football to the panel, attached with a dimensional.

I matted my photo on a brown panel, then added a photo corner to the top left corner to anchor it. I used my mat pack and paper piercing tool to make holes in the photo corner, then drew in stitches with a white gel pen to look like the stitches on a football. Good memories! I can’t wait for this season to begin. I think it’s only appropriate to finish this post the way my father signs most of his emails to me--Go Badgers!
