Doggie in the Spring Rain

As promised, here’s a second card featuring a new release from the Chicken Girl Design digi collection, available exclusively at i {heart} papers. Be sure to scroll down to the post below to see a card with another image from this release.

The new Doggie in the Rain image I used on this card is so cute! I took a little different approach to this card than on the one I posted earlier today. This one's based on Mercy’s latest sketch challenge. Instead of coloring the entire image with Copic markers, I colored some of the image and paper pieced the rest using some My Mind’s Eye Quite Contrary designer paper.

Here’s what I’ve found to work for paper piecing with digi images. I print the image I’m using on a piece of plain white paper (regular weight, copy paper-ish stuff). Then, I cut a piece of patterned paper to slightly larger than the image or section of the image that I’m going to be paper piecing. I put repositionable adhesive on the printed image, then set the patterned paper over the printed image, securing it in place with the adhesive. I run the paper through my printer again to transfer the image to the patterned paper, then remove the patterned paper and adhesive. The image is then ready to be trimmed and used for paper piecing. Here, I printed and cut out the raincoat on fun polka dotted paper to coordinate with the image’s polka dot boots. The rest of the image is colored with Copic markers. I added some Glossy Accents to the puddle and big splashes for a wet look.

I used the other side of the patterned paper to create the strips that run down the cardfront. The floral pattern has a great spring-like feel. I layered a piece of fuchsia faux suede ribbon across a lemon panel and attached that to the card, then layered the image over the panel using foam tape. A matching bow, made with my new friend the Bow Easy, is attached to the bottom of the image as a fun accent.

Be sure to check out the rest of the Chicken Girl Design Team to see what they’ve created using the latest additions to the Chicken Girl line. Here’s where to find them:
