Color Throwdown #124

It’s time to reveal this week’s Color Throwdown colors. Broni is our hostess this week and she’s mixed up a great color combination—Melon Mambo, Soft Sky, and Early Espresso.

Today's challenge also has a special twist. A few weeks ago, one of our team members read a thread on Splitcoaststampers about a fellow stamper who is very sick. Katie Renz lives in Washington state, is a wife and mother of three and was diagnosed just before Christmas with stage 4 gastric cancer. The members of the Throwdown team felt the need to rally around Katie and show her our support, so we are asking everyone to create their cards today to send to Katie! For her mailing address, please send an email to colorthrowdown[at]gmail[dot]com. The emails will be checked at least twice a day, and a response will be sent with Katie's mailing address. To further inspire you, we're offering some prizes! Several members of the Throwdown team are chipping in some prizes, as is Kate from i {heart} papers! We'll draw random winners from everyone who makes a card for Katie and provides a direct link to their card using the McLinky widget on this week's post on the Color Throwdown blog by 11:59 p.m. EST on Sunday, January 16th. THANK YOU for joining us in showing support to Katie!

Here’s my simple and sweet card. I used Papertrey Ink’s Warm Happiness Too set for the focal image. The mug image was die cut from white paper, then stamped first with the polka dot pattern in light blue ink and then with the outline image in brown ink. The steam image was stamped in white pigment ink, then heat embossed with Iridescent Ice embossing powder for a subtle shimmer and sparkle. After the steam was in place, I set the mug on the panel with foam tape.

The rest of the card’s very simple. I used one of the border images from PTI’s Simple Valentine set to make my own patterned paper on a Melon Mambo strip. The strip is set on the right side of the Soft Sky card base and the image panel is layered over part of it. Once the image panel was in place, I stamped the “warm and cozy wishes” sentiment, curving it to match the shape of the panel. I added a bright pink ribbon tab with a button to the panel as a fun accent. The little felt heart on the mug was a last-second add on. I’d cut it and intended to use it somewhere else on the card, but it didn’t work. It was sitting on my table, next to the card, and I decided to see how it would work on the mug.

Be sure to check out what the rest of the amazing Color Throwdown team has created with this trio of colors. Here’s where to find them:

  10. This is so adorable, Lori! Love the patterned paper you created for the pink strip, and your subtle, shimmery steam :] That felt heart worked beautifully on your mug! Doesn't it feel good finding the perfect use for something on your project after trying to force it to work somewhere else? I feel like that happens to me all the time, so I can totally relate!
