Blogger Challenge: Week 198

This week’s blogger challenge is an inspiration challenge. My mom asked me to make a masculine sympathy card for her, so I used a few different elements from the photo to create this simple sympathy card, including the soft blue color of the wall in the photo, a framed image, a tree, and a pop of green.

I created a background panel for the trees by adding a torn strip of Kiwi Kiss cardstock to the bottom of a Soft Sky panel. I stamped the tree trio from Papertrey Ink’s Through the Trees stamp set in brown ink on the panel, then set a panel of vellum over the stamped image. The vellum really softens the look of the scene. I used the new Simple Adhesive from Clear and Simple Stamps to adhere the vellum. Once it’s slightly burnished, the adhesive is not visible through the vellum—love that! The “with sympathy” sentiment from PTI’s Round and Round set is stamped on top of the vellum in brown ink.

I layered the panel on a brown mat, mimicking the look of the many frames in the inspiration photo. To add a little contrasting pop of color, I attached a wood button at the center of a strip of green grosgrain ribbon then placed the ribbon at the corner of the image panel.

For more ideas based on this inspiration photo, check out the links below (link list will be added in the morning). And, if you join in the challenge, feel free to add your link to the list.

Materials Used: Through the Trees and Round and Round stamp sets, Dark Chocolate ink, Ripe Avocado grosgrain ribbon, wooden button, twine (Papertrey Ink); Soft Sky, Kiwi Kiss, and Chocolate Chip cardstock (Stampin’ Up!); white vellum (The Paper Company); Simple Adhesive (Clear and Simple Stamps)
