On the Mend on the Go

When I travel, I make sure always have a tiny sewing kit on hand just in case there are any clothing emergencies that need to be taken care of, although I’m much more likely to have a stain emergency than a sewing one—LOL! I made this simple decorative cover for a sewing kit using images from the On the Mend II stamp set from Clear and Simple Stamps. The kit’s base is made from a strip of cardstock with just a few scores and folds. For your reference, CSS has made a simple template for the kit available for download here. I used CSS’s Golden Tiara cardstock for the kit’s base, then attached a panel of patterned paper with a stitching pattern over it. The little round image panel serves to hold the kit closed. I attached the red circle to the front of the kit, then attached the colored flower image using foam tape. The kit’s bottom flap slips under the raised flower, keeping it closed.

I stamped the “on the mend” sentiment from the On the Mend stamp set in red ink on the bottom flap and accented it with a button brad. The brad was originally white, but I used a Copic marker to color it red to match the sentiment—I love how you can use these markers to customize your embellishments!

I put the sewing kit contents in a small plastic bag and used Simple Adhesive to secure the bag to the inside of the kit. I’ve found inexpensive sewing kits in the dollar section at both Target and Michaels that work perfectly for this project.

Materials Used:
On the Mend and On the Mend II stamp sets, Perfect Little Black Dress and Haute Couture Red inks, Golden Tiara, Dare to Be a Diva Red, and A Blanc Check cardstock, Copic markers (R12, R22, R24, R81, R83, R85, Y21, Y23, YR30), Simple Adhesive (Clear and Simple Stamps); Craft Fair designer paper (American Crafts); button brad (Making Memories); circle punch (EK Success); foam tape; ScorPal
