Hang in There
Here’s my card for this week’s Paper Smooches Sparks challenge. This week’s challenge is a “designer drafts” one based on a sketch. I used the sketch to create this clean and simple card to provide some encouragement to a friend.
I used a piece of blue paper with a subtle grid pattern as my background. I wrapped a piece of gray baker’s twine around the panel, then “hung” the squirrel image from the Hang Ups set from the twine using dimensional dots to keep it in place. The squirrel has a fuzzy tail, courtesy of some white flock and its eyes are highlighted with a little Glossy Accents.
To ground the squirrel, I attached a strip of green dotted paper “grass” along the bottom of the panel, then added a trio of fluffy white felt clouds around the squirrel. The set’s “hang in there” sentiment is stamped just underneath the twine.
Materials Used:
from i {heart} papers: Paper Smooches Hang Ups stamp set, X-Press white Copic blending cardstock, Tsukineko Memento Tuxedo Black ink, Copic markers (C00, C-1, C-3, C-5, R20, B0000), Echo Park Playground Collection Kit, Ranger Glossy Accents, Stampendous white flock, Divine Twine oyster grey baker’s twine, Sticky Thumb dimensional dots
other: Aqua Mist cardstock (Papertrey Ink); CutUps Cloud Border die (The Cat’s Pajamas); grass border punch (Martha Stewart)
And, while we're on the topic of Paper Smooches, I have one more card to share based on this week's SCS sketch challenge. I pulled out my new Paper Smooches Happy Camper set again for this one. Did you see all of the great projects from the i {heart} papers design team using this set? If you missed them, check out my post from Tuesday for links to all the DT members—they did a fabulous job showing off a bunch of different ways to use this set.
I used the deer as my focal image. It’s colored with Copic markers and set on a dot embossed blue panel with a strip of border punched green grass along the bottom. I cut the panels for the cardfront from a piece of patchwork patterned paper and attached them to the yellow cardfront after rounding the corners on one side of each panel. I wrapped the card with some red baker’s twine and secured it with a bow. For a final pop of color, I stamped the set’s “my deer friend” sentiment in red ink on a white oval, then layered it on a red oval that I set at the top of the image panel.
If you’re a Paper Smooches fan, don’t miss the big Spring Cleaning sale going on now at IHP. Paper Smooches stamps are included in the sale, along with a bunch of other stamps, papers, and embellishments. Happy shopping!
