Sweet Sunday Sketch Challenge 164-Cake Love

It's time for a new Sweet Sunday Sketch challenge!  Here’s my take on the sketch. In addition to using the sketch,  my cake card was inspired by the current Tuesday Trigger challenge (see photo at the end of my post). I was inspired by the fun ruffled layer cake, the doily sitting underneath the cake, and the homespun little banner/bunting that stretches across the top of the cake.

My cake is made with the Clear and Simple Stamps Cake Decorating stamp set. I stamped the cake platter on kraft cardstock, then stamped the cake on a piece of cream cardstock so I could add it to the platter with foam tape. Before setting it on the platter, I stamped the swag images across each layer, accenting them with teeny, tiny pearls, and added a little depth to the cake with some marker shading. It’s also spritzed with a little shimmer spray for a pretty, subtle sparkle. I stamped the set’s “love” banner above the cake in red ink.

To pick up on the homespun feel of the banner found on the cake in the photo, I used papers from the Simple Stories Summer Fresh collection—I picked a doily patterned one and a floral one on a denim background. The cake panel is accented with a cream tag, inked around the edges with some distress ink, and a cream felt heart with a button. It’s more layers than I usually use, but I love the look!

I hope you'll join us and play along with this week's sketch.  Be sure to link up your creation to Karen's blog so we can check it out--and so you can check out the sweet blog candy she's offering to one lucky challenge participant.
