You Are My Whirl

Here’s my card for this week’s Waltzingmouse sketch challenge. I couldn’t wait to try out the new Woodgrain set, so I put it to use on this masculine take on the sketch.

I used the large pinwheel from the Playful Pinwheels set as my focal image. I filled in the pinwheel pieces with one of the solid and one of the dotted matching images using shades of blue and green. Instead of stamping one of the set’s stick images, I cut down a wooden skewer to attach to the pinwheel. The completed pinwheel is attached to a kraft panel stamped with the large woodgrain background stamp in kraft ink. I inked the panel’s edges with some distress ink before adding a pair of decorative tape strips along the bottom. I wasn’t thinking about stamping the sentiment when I added the tape, so I didn’t consider that the ink wouldn’t adhere to the tape. So, I had to make a little adjustment to the sketch and stamp the “you are my whirl” sentiment just above the tape.  Still close enough to count, I think!

Materials Used:
Playful Pinwheels and Woodgrain stamp sets (Waltzingmouse Stamps); Crumb Cake and Baja Breeze Classic inks, Whisper White cardstock (Stampin’ Up!); Ripe Avocado and Kraft cardstock (Papertrey Ink); Tea Dye distress ink (Ranger); Memento Rich Cocoa ink (Tsukineko); teal decorative tape (Target); green decorative tape (Michaels); wooden skewer; foam tape
