Sweet Sunday Sketch Challenge 182-Ahoy There

It’s time for another Sweet Sunday Sketch Challenge! Even though spring has just arrived here, I'm thinking ahead to summer already with my ocean themed design using stamps and dies from The Cat's Pajamas.

I made a simple scene for my focal image with the whale from the A Whale of a Time stamp set and the CutUps Wave Border die. I die cut two navy blue cardstock strips with the Wave Border die and arranged them at the bottom of a light blue circle to make a background for the whale. I’ve never had much success when I’ve tried to color this whale image, so I paper pieced it with a scrap of grid patterned paper. Much better! I adhered the paper pieced image to the panel with some foam tape.

I mixed and matched three different papers from a patterned paper pad for the cardfront. I used a simple blue woodgrain to cover most of the cardfront, then used a bolder circle pattern and a  grid pattern for the panels on the cardfront. The grid pattern was subtle enough that I could stamp the set’s “ahoy there” sentiment on it in navy blue ink.

To play along, just create a card based on the sketch and link it up on Karen’s blog. For lots of inspiration be sure to check out what the other Sweet Sunday Sketch stampers have created for you this week. Here’s where to find them:
