His and Hers
It seems like lots of cardmakers feel like they struggle with making masculine cards. Today the designers at Clear and Simple Stamps are taking on the challenge of creating masculine cards by starting with a feminine card and making some changes to the design to make it in to a masculine card. To create my pair of cards, I used the same stamp set and a similar layout, but switched up the images, colors and embellishments to come up with two versions of the design.
First up is my feminine design. I started off with an In the Limelight card base and dressed it up with a pair of patterned tape strips with a piece of doily tucked underneath for a feminine touch. I stamped two champagne glasses from the Taglines: By the Glass set on white cardstock. After coloring the images with Copic markers and adding some sparkle with a little glitter, I cut them out and attached them to the cardfront with foam tape. The set’s “a toast for the bride-to-be” sentiment is stamped next to the glasses in black ink. I finished the design off with a twine-tied pink button that I attached to the end of the tape strips.
Here’s my masculine version of the design. It uses the same stamp set and includes most of the same design elements, but with a twist. It’s a similar layout, but oriented portrait-style instead of landscape. I also went with a more masculine earth-toned color palette. Again, I started off with a pair of decorative tape strips. Instead of using a doily, I used a brown panel cut with one of the Toppers dies underneath the tape. I stamped the beer bottle image from the same stamp set, colored it with Copic markers, and cut it out, then adhered it to a pair of layered circle die cuts using foam tape. I attached the circle over the tape strips and added a twine tied button accent. The “what’s brewing” sentiment is stamped in black ink next to the image.
