Way to Go
This week’s Paper Smooches SPARKS challenge is a Trend Watch challenge focusing on gold. Gold accents have become super trendy lately and even though I personally prefer silver, I’ve been branching out a little and trying to incorporate some gold in my paper crafting.
I used just a little bit of gold on my space themed design using the Space Cadet stamp set and this week’s sketch from Retro Sketches. I made a simple scene with a dark blue background featuring the set’s rocket ship image with some gold embossed stars scattered around it. To add some texture and dimension to the rocket, I dotted the little circles at the bottom of the rocket with gold Liquid Pearls and adhered a clear dome sticker to the rocket’s porthole.
Instead of using one of the set’s sentiments, I used the “way to go” sentiment from the Sentiment Sampler set. It’s also embossed in gold. I found some star patterned paper to use for the panel behind the scene. Both panels are matted on mustard cardstock, then adhered to a blue card base. I added a strip of gold and white striped washi tape at the bottom of the patterned paper panel to represent the sketch’s chevron elements.
Materials Used:
from i {heart} papers: Paper Smooches Space Cadet and Sentiment Sampler stamp sets, Crafter’s Companion ultrasmooth white cardstock, Tsukineko Memento Tuxedo Black ink, Spectrum Noir markers (BT1, BT2, GB1, GB3, GB5, CR1, CR8, CR9, CR11), American Crafts My Girl 6x6 paper pad, Ranger Gold Pearl Liquid Pearls, Sticky Thumb dimensional dots
other: Not Quite Navy and More Mustard cardstock (Stampin’ Up!); gold embossing powder (Ranger); clear dome sticker (EK Success); gold striped decorative tape
