Eight Happy Nights
It’s hard to believe that Thanksgiving and Hanukkah overlap this year, isn't it? In honor of the start of Hanukkah, I have a fun Hanukkah design to share, inspired by the current CAS-ual Fridays "create with 8" challenge to use 8 of something on your design.
In my case, the 8 is 8 gold sequins, representing the gold gelt, or chocolate coins, used when playing the traditional dreidel game. I scattered the different sized sequins around a dreidel from the CAS-ual Fridays Stamps 8 Happy Nights set. To get a woodgrain like look, I stamped the image on kraft cardstock using brown pigment ink, then used an ink blending tool and some distress inks over the stamped image.
The set’s “Happy Hanukkah” image is heat embossed next to the dreidel using gold embossing powder. I’d usually use silver with blue, but with all of the gold sequin gelt, gold was the obvious choice here. I added a strip of gold paper underneath the stamped panel and adhered it to a light blue panel. A piece of a white doily is tucked underneath the bottom edge of the gold strip to add a soft element to the design.
Whether you’re celebrating Hanukkah and Thanksgiving tonight like I am, or just Thanksgiving, I want to wish you and your family a very happy holiday. I’m so thankful that you stop by to visit me at Inking Aloud!
