Color Throwdown 296-Hello

It’s time for another Color Throwdown! It’s my turn to host the challenge and I’ve selected colors inspired by this sweet hot air balloon mobile—Cool Caribbean , Kiwi Kiss, Pink Pirouette, and Regal Rose.

Hello card-designed by Lori Tecler/Inking Aloud-stamps and dies from Lil' Inker DesignsAt first, I thought about doing a kind of literal interpretation of the photo with hot air balloons and clouds, but in the end, went with a design that used a simple layered butterfly as its focal point. The butterfly is from Lil’ Inker Designs. I cut out three the different sized butterflies, starting with a textured pale pink for the base, then adding a smaller rose butterfly and an even smaller vellum one on top. The two small butterflies are attached just at their centers so their wings can be folded back to add dimension to the die cut piece.

I used foam tape to adhere the butterfly to a simple background made from blue cardstock with green cardstock “grass” along the bottom. A crystal flourish was tucked underneath the butterfly to form a flight trail. I stamped the “hello” sentiment from the Darling Diamonds set on the green cardstock in aquamarine ink. It looks much bluer IRL than it does in the photo! The panel was matted with a pink stitched rectangle, then adhered to a white card base.

To play along, just create a paper crafted project using these colors as a starting point and add a direct link to your finished project using the linky tool found at the end of this week's CTD post. As always, if you don’t have exact color matches, something close works just fine. Just be sure that the challenge colors are the dominant ones in your project. And, if you upload your project to an online gallery, use the keyword CTD296.

Before you get started, here’s some inspiration from the talented Color Throwdown team, our new June guestie, Susie Moore, and this week’s guest star stamper, Betty Schaub.
