Today's Try a New Technique challenge on Splitcoast Stampers was to use a set that you don't like to create a card. I chose Play on Words. This was one of the "preview" sets from the 2006-2007 SU! catalog that demonstrators had the opportunity to order in advance. I got it, thinking it would be fun to use and that I could always use some new "sayings" stamps. Well, I have barely touched this set since it arrived and kind of regret purchasing it, especially after seeing some of the great sentiment sets in the catalog, like Warm Words and Happy Everything.
Anyway, the layout I used was one that I have wanted to try for a long time and the circle shape of the "4 you" image fit it perfectly. This card has a pocket for an insert with a half-circle notch along one edge. The circle image fits inside the notch and is used to pull the insert out of the pocket. I used craft inks to stamp the circles from Simply Circles on the card and insert. Craft ink has a different, richer look than dye inks when stamped on cardstock. It does take longer to dry, though, and I always seem to forget that when working with craft ink . . .
All materials used from Stampin' Up!: Play on Words and Simply Circles stamp sets; Bashful Blue, Regal Rose, Whisper White cardstock, Ballet Blue, Regal Rose, White Craft inks; Rose grosgrain ribbon; circle punches
