Pumpkin Pie, Celery, and Sky

I'm celebrating tonight because I'm typing this on my very own computer from my very own internet connection in my very own air conditioned house. Yes, the air conditioner broke yesterday--just another thing to add to the long, long list of things that have gone completely wrong in my house. Fortunately, today the AC, the phone, and the internet connection were restored. And to think that I thought that once my grad school program was over, my summer would be smooth sailing . . .

I had time tonight to participate in Kristina's color inspiration challenge. This week's colors are Pumpkin Pie, Certainly Celery, Soft Sky, and Very Vanilla. I've never been a big orange fan. I own nothing orange and never wear orange clothes. I definitely am more drawn to cool-feeling colors, I guess. But, lately I am finding myself liking orange in my papercrafting. Interesting (or at least it is to me)!

My card is pretty simple. I knew I wanted to use some of the pretty Pumpkin Pie felt flowers from the SU! Flower Fusion assortment for my card, so I started with those. I used a piece of Soft Sky patterned paper with a flower shape that matched one of my felt flowers for the main panel on the cardfront.

To pull in some more orange on the cardfront to go with the flower trio, I stamped a simple sentiment in matching Pumpkin Pie ink and added a narrow strip of Pumpkin Pie cardstock to the bottom edge of the Soft Sky paper panel.

I added a few Certainly Celery details, too. The sparkly rhinestone brads at the center of each flower are celery-tinted and I made a leaf for the flowers using one of my circle punches and my bone folder. I tied a strip of wide celery grosgrain ribbon where the patterned paper and the Vanilla cardstock meet.

Stop back tomorrow to see my take on another color challenge, this time for my blogger challenge group.

Materials Used (all from Stampin' Up!):
Short & Sweet stamp set, Pumpkin Pie Classic ink, Certainly Celery, Pumpkin Pie, and Very Vanilla cardstock, Soft Sky Prints Series designer paper, Certainly Celery wide grosgrain ribbon, 1 1/4" circle punch, Flower Fusion felt flowers, rhinestone brads, glue dots, dimensionals

  2. oh this is fabulous! Love how you used the Pumpkin... and I do find it interesting too how you may not like a colour but find yourself using it in crafting (I was like that with pink)

  3. Hi Lori, your card looks great! I wouldn't have thought of that color combo...amazing what works huh?

I am on a yahoo group and several people have been asking how to place little color swatches on their blogs, like the cirlces you have. Are you willing to share that information? If so, I'd REALLY appreciate an email.

    Have a great weekend!
