Split Negative Swap

Tonight is the SCS dinner in SLC. I'm looking forward to visiting with some of my stamping friends and getting a chance to meet some new ones. I decided to participate in the card swap, so I created 46 (plus some extras) of this card.

When I sat down to plan my card for the swap, I knew I wanted to use some of the new In Colors along with one of the images from the new Heard from the Heart set. I thought one of the sentiments from the set would work well paired with the large heart image from Always.

The heart is done using the split negative technique. You can find a tutorial for this technique here. This is the first time I've tried this technique and I really like how it turned out. I heat embossed the heart in Close to Cocoa with clear embossing powder and also in white craft ink with white embossing powder. I sliced the heart images in half and paired them up to create a big stack of these two-toned hearts. It was kind of time-consuming, especially for a large number of swaps. But, last year the swaps I got at the SCS dinner were so nice, I wanted to be sure that mine would measure up--know what I mean?

Materials Used (all from Stampin’ Up!):
Always, Heard from the Heart stamp sets, Riding Hood Red Classic ink, White and Close to Cocoa Craft inks, Chocolate Chip, Riding Hood Red, Pink Pirouette, Kraft, and Whisper White cardstock, scallop edge punch, brad, Crystal Clear and Winter White EP
