Birds in Blue and Rust, Too
I really liked the color combination in today's SCS color challenge. So much, in fact, that I did two cards using the colors.
The first card uses the new Season of Friendship set from SU!'s holiday mini catalog. The tree image is big, so I've had a hard time figuring out how to use it on cardfronts and still have room for other "stuff." Here, I ended up trimming the tree down just a little so I'd have some more space to work with. The tree is stamped in Chocolate Chip ink. My original plan was to use some of the Flower Fusion Too Baja Breeze felt flowers to adorn the tree, but I didn't have enough small flowers in the same shape and they didn't look great (to me) when I mixed and matched, so I nixed that idea.
Instead, I added flowers stamped in Baja Breeze ink. I found some tiny pearls with a rust-ish tint to them and placed them at the flower centers. The bird is stamped on a scrap of Very Vanilla cardstock in Really Rust ink, then trimmed out and attached to the tree with a piece of dimensional.
I found a scrap of Fall Flowers designer paper to layer under the stamped image, matted with a piece of Baja Breeze cardstock for contrast. I tied a piece of Baja Breeze striped grosgrain around the card for another pop of blue. I added the sentiment, stamped using a Stamp-a-ma-jig to fit the circle, at the empty space on the image panel.
Materials Used:
Season of Friendship stamp set, Chocolate Chip, Baja Breeze, and Really Rust Classic inks, Chocolate Chip, Baja Breeze, Really Rust, and Very Vanilla cardstock, Fall Flowers designer paper, Chocolate Chip marker, 1 1/4" and 1 3/8" circle punch, Baja Breeze striped grosgrain ribbon, dimensionals (Stampin' Up!); pearls (Kaiser)
Here's the second card using the Birds of a Feather kit from Unity Stamp Co. The bird is stamped in brown ink on Very Vanilla cardstock, then paper pieced with Baja Breeze and Really Rust cardstock. I used markers to color the acorns.
I added a dotted panel of Bella Rose designer paper bordered on one side by a paper pierced panel of Baja Breeze cardstock. I tied a piece of really, really dark brown satin ribbon around the patterned paper--the ribbon is so dark it almost looks black from some angles.
I combined two of the individual words from the set to create the simple sentiment. I had a hard time deciding where to place it. I ended up slipping it under the stamped panel and adding a button to accent it.
Materials Used:
Birds of a Feather kit (Unity Stamp Co.); Really Rust Classic ink, Chocolate Chip, Really Rust, Baja Breeze, and Very Vanilla cardstock, Bella Rose designer paper, 1 1/4" and 1 3/8" circle punches, mat pack and paper piercing tool, white gel pen, glue dot, dimensionals (Stampin' Up!); brown satin ribbon (Target); Rich Cocoa ink (Memento); markers (Copic Ciao); button (Walmart)
