Sweet Treat House
As I was wandering through Michaels one day, I noticed these three dimensional cardboard houses on display and on clearance, too. They're made of a plain, chipboard like material, weighted so they'll stand steadily, and perfect for altering. For only fifty cents, I could see lots of possibilities for them, so three of them made their way home with me—and have remained on the floor of my craft room ever since, waiting patiently for me to do something with them.
I used supplies from i {heart} papers to create this adorable gingerbread house. I used a pair of coordinating patterned papers from the Crate Paper Mia Collection Kit for the front of the house. One of the papers has a pattern that totally reminds me of the overlapping shingles on a roof—perfect! I attached it to the front of the house using dimensionals so it looks like the roof extends beyond the house front.
I added some embellishments to “sweeten” up the house. I cut some icicles for the top of the roof from a scrap of white cardstock. The icicles are covered with Angel Wings Shimmerz to give them a sparkly, icy look. I placed a band of soft brown faux suede ribbon across the roof and a decorative band of pink pom pom trim, too. I used some of Basic Grey's Eva alphabet stickers to spell out the word "sweet" on the roof, too.
I fashioned a front door out of a scrap of brown cardstock and attached that to the house with a dome embellishment as a door knob. Once the house had a door, it needed a "resident," so I added a cute Martha Stewart gingerbread man sticker and a few gumdrop stickers, too. So cute!
By the way--Amber, one of the other DT members at IHP has a "super blingy" blog candy giveaway going on now that you won't want to miss. Check it out here.
