So So Shimmery Snowflakes

***Scroll down to the post below to see my project for December's i {heart} papers DT challenge.***

I have to admit, I totally hesitated about sharing this card. It just doesn't look anywhere near as nice in the photo as it does in real life. But, I'm not feeling great tonight--I've been sick for the past few days, I'm still very sad about Cosmo the crazy dog, and in addition to that, my car died on Friday and has needed major work (like a new transmission kind of major work). When the "death toll" in your house within one week includes 2 (unwelcome) mice, 1 dog, and 1 car, things are just not going your way. Needless to say, pretty much nothing is making me too happy right now. So, I'm just going to go ahead and post the card anyway . . .

I made the card using this week's Sweet Sunday Sketch Challenge and the JUGS challenge to use the chalkboard technique. I like the look of the chalkboard technique a lot and thought that the snowflakes from Papertrey Ink's Rustic Snowfall stamp set would look so nice covered in shimmery silver and blue chalks against a navy background. Take my word for it--they do in real life! A tiny dab of blue Liquid Pearls is at the center of each one for some more sparkle and some dimensionl.

I paired the image panel with a turquoise-ish paper with a light grid pattern. I like the non-traditional turquoise and navy combo. A pair of layered satin ribbons is on the left side of the card and a trio of tiny rhinestones, backed by turquoise circles to help them stand out a bit, are on the right. I added a button embellished bow for a little more interest. No sentiment on the front, but I'll probably put a white panel inside the card and stamp something on there.

Hoping tomorrow will be a better day . . . I'll have something else that I like more to share in the AM.

Materials Used:
Rustic Snowflakes stamp set, Fresh Snow ink, white button, twine (Papertrey Ink); Tempting Turquoise and Night of Navy cardstock, 1/4" circle punch (Stampin' Up!); designer paper (DCWV Saffron); white satin ribbon (Michaels); blue satin ribbon (Target); rhinestones (Offray); blue Liquid Pearls (Ranger); shimmery chalks (Pebbles inc)

  1. I think it's a beautiful card, and I really love the blue and silver instead of the traditional red and green.

  8. Lori, I'm so sorry to hear about your sweet pup. I can't even imagine what you're going through. Our dogs are seriously a part of our family and by the sounds of it so was yours. You are in my prayers, sweet girl. I pray your holiday is filled with blessings and no more broken down cars...or nasty mice.

As for your card, it is just stunning! I love that you used a navy background for the technique and you are right, the snowflakes look gorgeous with the chalkboard technique! Perfect, simple layout and satin ribbon embellishment...that doesn't take away from your main panel. Just BEAUTIFUL.

Thanks so much for playing along with Just Us Girls despite the week you were having. I certainly hope we see your gorgeous work again. We have a fantastic color challenge set up for Saturday hosted by our Tracey if you're up to it ♥
