Hats off to the Birthday Boy
My best friend’s little boy is celebrating his third birthday this week. In honor of the occasion, I got him a gift card. I couldn’t package the gift card in an ordinary way for this special little guy, so I created a gift card holder to match his Mickey Mouse birthday party theme.
I had seen directions for a cute beanie gift card holder for a recent Technique Lover’s Challenge on SCS. I thought that I might be able to modify the beanie to make a Mickey Mouse-like hat to hold the gift card. I followed the tutorial’s directions for the basic assembly of the hat, but instead of adding a single pom pom embellishment to the top, I added a pair of “ears.” I punched a circle from a piece of black cardstock, then gently distressed the edge of the circle with my fingernail until I could separate the circle into two circle panels. This gave the mouse ears a soft, suede like texture and added a little interest to the design. To personalize the gift card holder a little more, I added some chipboard letter stickers along the bottom of the hat to spell out the birthday boy’s name. So cute!
Materials Used:
Real Red and Basic Black cardstock, scallop edge punch, eyelet (Stampin’ Up!); circle punch (Marvy Uchida); white grosgrain ribbon (Michaels); chipboard letter stickers (Basic Gray)
