Blogger Challenge: Week 144/Friends with Flair

This week’s blogger challenge was a sketch challenge. For some reason, I had a hard time with this one. I’m not totally pleased with what I came up with, but it’ll do.

I used the fun dinosaur image from Unity’s Sketchy Little Boy kit for my focal image. The dino is stamped in black ink and colored with Copic markers. After I finished coloring, I dabbed the dino with a textured rag dipped in some colorless blending solution to give him a kind of textured look. I airbrushed a soft blue background around him, too.

The dinosaur is paired with a striped paper from the My Mind’s Eye Lil’ Robots Collection Kit. I love these papers for little boy cards! I layered the dinosaur on a pinking edged circle and set it on the card. A strip of green corduroy ribbon runs across the card. It kind of makes a grassy base for the dino to stand on. I sewed the ribbon in place. The stitches are kind of funky because the ribbon is pretty thick and my little sewing machine was not happy about it. I stamped the set’s “dino-mite” sentiment in turquoise ink and layered it on a rust panel, then attached it to the card with foam tape. I added a coordinating button as an accent. Instead of attaching a narrow strip across the right side of the image and extending beyond it (like the sketch showed), I added a matching ribbon tab underneath to balance out the design.

For more spring ideas, you can check out what the rest of the challenge players have created. Links to their blogs are in the sidebar on the right. And, you can check out the full list of Friends with Flair players on the Unity blog for more Unity inspiration.
