Going Green with the i {heart} papers Design Team

The theme for this month’s i {heart} papers design team challenge is “going green.” DT members used the sketch from this week’s sketch challenge at Paper Craft Planet to create a card that incorporates recycled elements—and maybe a little green, too!

My “recycled” elements are pieces of paper left over from other projects. I keep a scrap container of both solid and patterned papers nearby when I’m crafting and try to re-use things that may not have worked just right for the project I originally intended to use them for. I’m always looking for ways to incorporate these elements into my projects so they don't go to waste.

Here, I colored the Spring Squirrel image from the new Chicken Girl Design digi release with Copic markers. The tail’s filled in with some white Sparkly Fluff—so cute! I layered the image on green and pink mats with scalloped edges.

I found a pair of coordinating designer paper pieces in my scrap collection—the green irregular grid one from a Jillibean Soup collection, the floral one from My Mind’s Eye's Penny Lane collection—to use to cover the cardfront. A piece of pink satin ribbon is wrapped around the floral paper. I added a pink flower with a rhinestone at the center as a simple, springy embellishment. The flower was originally white, but I used a Copic marker (R83) to get a pink shade to coordinate perfectly with my card.

Be sure to check out what the rest of the IHP DT has created for this month’s challenge. Here’s where to find them:
