Retro Inspired Birthday

Here’s my card for last week’s Viva la Verve sketch/inspiration challenge. This month’s inspiration room is the kitchen. My card is inspired by a striking retro style turquoise/teal blue and red kitchen, with touches of black and white.

I made this birthday card using the sketch and incorporating the colors of the kitchen. The focal image is the trio of balloons from Verve’s Party Time set. They’re stamped twice so that one set of balloons could be cut out and attached to the image panel with foam tape. I colored them to match the colors in the inspiration room, then added the sentiment in the lower right corner using red ink.

I paired the balloons with some DCWV and SEI designer papers with subtle patterns. These colors are pretty bold, so I didn’t want to add too much going on in the background. I ran a piece of red ribbon around the front of the card and added a button-embellished bow. A red scalloped strip is slipped under the ribbon—mostly hidden by the image and the bow, but it’s there!

Materials Used:
Party Time stamp set (Verve Stamps); white cardstock (Taylored Expressions); Tuxedo Black ink (Memento); markers (Copic); Riding Hood Red Classic ink, Riding Hood Red, Taken with Teal, and Basic Black cardstock (Stampin’ Up!); designer paper (DCWV-Flower Shower matstack; SEI-Black Orchid line); red grosgrain ribbon (Michaels); medium scallop die, Pure Poppy button, twine (Papertrey Ink); foam tape
